Description

Manufacture of release films and gelatine sheets. In the various manufacturing methods of release films, as they are e.g. As described in patents 117310, 354294 and 35545o, or gelatin films that can be used for other purposes according to patent 2o9oo6, are usually celluloid pads or collodion layers mixed with resin or wax, or, as indicated in patent 355450, an emulsion hardening intermediate layer, which are applied to any other substrate, such as gelatinized paper, rubber and the like.

In the present process these rather expensive intermediate layers are now eliminated path. A gelatinized, smoothed paper or other material is easy to use A short pretreatment gave every gelatin film, whether with a light-sensitive salt mixed or pure, can be easily peeled off after drying can. The process is as follows: The structureless, gelatinized base is left go through a bath of a potassium or ammonium dichromate solution and perform the gelatinized side after drying 3 to 15 minutes in a light source, daylight or electric arc light, over. Direct sunlight works the fastest. The duration of the exposure depends on the strength of the light source or that of the chromate bath away. With a 5 percent solution, 5 minutes is sufficient in daylight in summer. To the exposure will wash away the excess chromate salt, which happens very quickly and goes on easily. The base treated in this way dries very quickly and is After drying, the gelatine or light-sensitive emulsion can be poured on. The emulsion adheres excellently and during the entire photographic process can still be peeled off very easily after drying, cracks even after a long time Exposure of the substrate, during the pretreatment, by itself.

This procedure is likely to have been used by everyone since then be the cheapest. If the light-sensitive emulsion layer is chosen to be strong enough, or you pour, in order to achieve the desired strength, a gelatin layer undgr the emulsion and the developed, fixed film is subjected to the same treatment like the pad, but the film only after bathing in the light-sensitive Chromate salt solution and drying may be peeled off, and exposed from both sides must be, so the film can be used for smaller cinematographic screenings without a celluloid base to be used. The exposure can take significantly longer than with the release sheet. Prior hardening with the known gelatin hardening agents is also useful. The film treated in this way is no longer soluble in water, even in boiling water. It only loses its stiffness after prolonged soaking. Protection against wetting with water should at least be advisable.
