Bisher wurde der durch das Ziehen hart gewordene Draht als Ring in einem Glühzylinder geglüht und f nach der Glühe so lange darin belassen, bis eine gewisse Abkühlung eingetreten war, worauf er herausgenommen und auf der Kaltwalze zum Bande ausgewalzt wurde; oder der Draht wurde durch einen mit indifferentem Gase beschickten Ofen gezogen, wobei das jeweils im Ofen befindliche Stück vermittels des elektrischen Stromes auf die gewünschte Glühhitze gebracht und gegebenenfalls in einem besonderen, an den Ofen angebauten Kühlrohre wieder abgekühlt wurde. Durch dieses Abschrecken des von der Luft unbeeinflußten Drahtes in der kalten Walze wird ein be3timmtes Gefüge des Drahtes festgehalten, so daß der Draht bzw. das Band besondere magnetische Eigenschaften erhält. Das Rohr kann mit einem Pyrometer versehen sein, damit die Glühhitze überwacht und geregelt werden kann, und ferner mit einem Rohranschlusse, durch denLuft abgesaugt öder ein indifferentesGas eingeblasen wird. Das Erhitzen des Drahtes erfolgt entweder unmittelbar, indem elektrischer Strom durch ihn gesandt wird, oder mittelbar durch Umwicklung des Tonrohres mit Widerstandsdraht. Im ersten Falle liegt der Zuleitungskontakt für den elektrischen Strom unmittelbar vor der Eintrittsöffnung, der Abnahmekontakt innerhalb des Rohres; im zweiten Falle ist nur der erste Teil des Rohres umwickelt, so daß in beiden Fällen der Draht nicht auf der ganzen im Glührohre befindlichen Länge geglüht wird, sondern ein entsprechend langes Reststück des Drahtes innerhalb des Rohres abkühlen kann. Das Abkühlen erfolgt dabei im Gegensatz zu den bereits bekannten, mit elektrischer Heizung arbeitenden Verfahren gleichmäßig und allmählich, da in dem gleichzeitig zum Glühen und Abkühlen benutzten Rohre ein sich allmählich von der Glühstelle zur Austrittsöffnung erstreckendes, durch die Wärmeleitung der Strömung bedingtes Wärmegefälle zustande kommt, ohne daß der Draht vollständig kalt wird. Auch sind bei Benutzung nur eines Rohres zum Glühen und Abkühlen die an seiner Ein- und Austrittsöffnung für den Draht erfolgenden Gasverluste kleiner als bei Anwendung getrennter Glüh- und Abkühlräume, die mehrere Durchtrittsöffnungen für den Draht bedingen. Unmittelbar an die Austrittsöffnung des Glüh-und Abkühlrohres anschließend ist das Walzwerk angeordnet, und zwar so, daß der austretende Draht noch halbwarm (etwa 45o° C, ohne mit der Luft unnötig lange in Berührung zu kommen, zum Bande ausgewalzt wird.
