Description

Process for the production of sulphurous acid from kieserite. Kieserite (Magnesium Sulphate) is used in large quantities as an annoying waste product in the potash factories won. Efforts have been made for a long time to find those contained in the kieserite To obtain sulfuric acid and has for this purpose the same by means of carbon reduced. This creates elemental sulfur, which evaporates. The invention consists in removing the elemental sulfur formed during the reduction burns in such a way that at a sufficiently hot point on the apparatus, in which the reduction is carried out, introducing air or oxygen to one Points in time when the volatilizing sulfur is still in suspension and has not yet discontinued. To prevent this sulfur from getting prematurely ignited, the reduction should be carried out in a vertical retort that can be heated from the outside from which the formed and volatilized sulfur by means of a Helmet o. The like. Is derived. At a suitable, still hot point of the flue duct if air or oxygen is supplied so that the sulfur burns to sulphurous acid, which is then converted into sulfuric acid in a known manner. One can also attach devices at the point where the air or oxygen is introduced, that the sulfur in vapor form mixes intimately with the air, and although this can be done, for example, by arranging fillers or the like in the flue pipes take place. Finally, you can also introduce the air tangentially into the exhaust duct, so that the gases are swirled, which also results in an intimate mixing the air with the sulfur vapors brings about.
