Description

Process for breaking up wood in the form of chips with nitric acid according to the process according to patent 391713.

Addendum to patent 391713. Attempts with those in patent 391713 and the additional patent 39519i described process wood in the form of wood shavings, wood wool or opening up wood chips were not successful, it was only possible to obtain wood-free pulp from straw, reeds and wood pulp. Before the firmer one The structure of the wood is halted by these processes, ultimately only crumbly, brown, inconspicuous masses that no longer have the character of fibers.

Nach einer halben Stunde läßt man ab, wäscht nach und führt das aufgeschlossene Material einer Zerkleinerungsmaschine zu.Further attempts have now shown. that you can unlock wood if you have this z. B. in the form of wood shavings or wood chips previously heated with diluted alkalis or alkaline earths; a deep brown broth then goes down. Subsequent heating with dilute nitric acid turns the substance golden yellow, and after the final treatment with hot soda solution or milk of lime, a completely opened, pale yellowish pulp is obtained which can be easily bleached white, e.g. B. with chlorinated lime. The particular advantage of this procedure is that it can be carried out entirely in open vessels and that it only takes about 6 to 7 hours. Example. Wood shavings, as they are, for. B. fall off when cleaning the wood in the wood grinding shops , are boiled for about an hour in 0.3 to 0.5 percent sodium hydroxide solution, after removing the broth you add water once and let it drain again. Then you give a hot 2 to 5 percent nitric acid, which you z. B. by mixing nitric acid solution with sulfuric acid, and keeps the temperature for about 4 hours at about 90 ° C. Then the liquid is drained, which can be used again after appropriate reinforcement. Then you wash with water and finally add hot soda solution or milk of lime in such strength that the liquid just remains alkaline. After half an hour it is drained, rewashed and the digested material is fed to a comminuting machine.

If you want to use wood chips, you have to last so long, possibly under pressure, be boiled with the caustic soda until the lye has penetrated completely. The material in this case before the nitric acid treatment expedient Something else was crushed, which was in the "oak" state in which it was brought about by the alkali treatment comes, is very easy to do.
