Abstract

In a method of infrasonic hydrophonic signal correction an acceleration sensor 11 is combined with an acoustic sensor 9 to form a hydrostatic cancelling hydrophone in which the signal from the sensor 11 is used to cancel the hydrostatic pressure signal component of the acoustic sensor from the output of the hydrophone. The arrangement allows for the cancellation of movement effects upon a hydrophone suspended vertically from a buoy, caused by wave action. The acceleration sensor 11 is shielded from acoustic waves by a housing 10 and an extension 12 of the device may incorporate the processing circuit including a filter, amplifier and pre-emphasis arrangements. <IMAGE>
