Abstract

1435125 Seismic hydrophone streamer; hydrophones TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc 9 May 1973 [22 May 1972 (3)] 22034/73 Headings H4D and H4J A seismic streamer which provides cancellation of spurious signals arising from acceleration forces, e.g. during towing, comprises spaced, electrically-connected hydrophones in a housing, each hydrophone itself including at least two transducer elements oriented and connected to give a single output signal substantially independent of acceleration. In the Fig. 4 embodiment a hydrophone for incorporation in the streamer includes a pair of series-connected piezo-electric elements 44, 46 mounted on a flexible metal diaphragm 40 and parallel-connected with a similar pair of elements 48, 50 on diaphragm 42. Each element is a ceramic disc having gold electrodes. The diaphragms are held by a plastics mount 34 within a stainless steel sleeve 20 sheathed with a shock absorbent rubber or plastics layer 21. The assembly of elements and diaphragms is encapsulated in a polyurethane plastic. The element interconnections and polarization provide a first-order cancellation of acceleration noises in the hydrophone output. A secondorder cancellation of noise is obtained by appropriately orienting and interconnecting several hydrophones of the above type. The spacings of the hydrophones along the streamer are chosen such that selected noise wavelengths are attenuated in the combined output of the streamer.
