Abstract

Mixts. (I) contain (a) 20-95 wt.% polyarylene sulphide with melt viscosity 7-2000 Pa.s (b) 5-80 wt.% electrically conducting ZnO and possibly (w.r.t. total wt. of a + b) (c) 5-80 wt.% fillers and reinforcing materials. Pref. component (a) is polyphenylene sulphide (PPS); (c) are glass fibres or spheres, carbon fibre, aramid fibre, inorganic or organic colour pigments, metal powder, foil, fibre or flakes, quartz, chalk, kaolin, sulphates, carbonates, TiO2, iriodins, dopants such as AsF5, iodine, etc. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful as moulding materials for the prodn. of electrically conducting moulded prods. (claimed); mouldings, film and fibre mfd. from (I) are claimed as such. Applications include casing parts, etc. The invention enables the prodn. of light-coloured electrically conducting PPS materials without an undesirable increase in melt viscosity (contrast graphite and other carbon-based conducting fillers).

Description

The invention relates to mixtures of polyarylene sulfide the, preferably polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) with elek trisch conductive zinc oxide and molding compounds of these Mixtures for the production of electrically conductive, col lighter moldings.

US-A 33 54 129, EP-A 1 71 021).Polyarylene sulfides and their preparation are known (See, for example, US-A 33 54 129, EP-A 1 71 021).

These patents disclose conductive polyarylene sulfide mixtures described by the addition of Carbon, Leitruß or graphite to the polyarylene sulfide be set conductive.

A major disadvantage of such conductive poly Arylensulfidmischungen is that these, due to the added carbon, all black colored.

Another disadvantage of such mixtures is that through the partially highly structured Leitruße the Melt viscosity of the compound is greatly increased, which makes it when filling thin-walled parts to filling problems can come.

It has now been found that mixtures of Polyarylensul fiden, preferably from polyphenylene sulfide, with elek conductive conductive zinc oxide to conductive and color lead to bright molding compounds. The required amount of zinc oxide can vary depending on the desired electrical Properties are 5 to 80 wt .-%, wherein the Ver improvement of the mechanical characteristics known trade conventional fillers and reinforcing agents such as e.g. glass fibers, spheres, carbon fibers, aramid fibers, colored pigment elements, in particular metal compounds, metal powders, -fibers, flakes, flakes, quartz, chalk, mica, Barium sulfate, etc. can be added.
