Procedure for supplementing measurements using the equipotential line method
for earth exploration purposes. When electrically surveying an area according to the
various known equipotential line methods are obtained upon completion of the
Measurements in the terrain and drawing of the equipotential lines in the terrain image

the potential gradient. From their distribution one can already get an approximate
Draw a conclusion about the spatial distribution of the electrical conductivity in the soil.
This knowledge is enough to make unambiguous conclusions about the subsurface conditions
not yet out, @da high conductivity of the soil with high or low amperage

can lead.
In detail there is the method, the configuration of the equipotential lines
to analyze the nature of the subsoil, in that one in
creates a voltage gradient on the ground through somehow arranged electrodes
and then the distribution of the tension created under the influence of this tension gradient
Current in the ground with the help of the measurement of the equipotential lines generated by this

Conductivity has a small potential gradient, while areas of low conductivity
generate a particularly high potential gradient (or potential gradient). Accordingly
the equipotential lines assemble, if one has them with the same difference of the
Potential over those areas where the electrical conductivity
is low, while they are those areas where the electrical conductivity is in
Subsoil is great, seem to steer clear of it.
In
But doing it outside in the field presents great difficulties
To practically measure equipotential lines with the same difference in potential,
and one usually has to be content with unknown equipotential lines
to seek out absolute potential and to enter this in cards.
In
In this case one can only see the divergence of the equipotential lines in the various
Areas in mutual comparison to analyze the distribution of electrical
Use conductivity in the subsurface.
In principle, of course, you can use the absolute values of the potential
on some potential line against the electrodes themselves or against somehow
determine the arranged auxiliary electrodes. But if you have finitely large areas
do, which with the current instrumental aids are up to 50 and 100 square kilometers in size
This means that additional long-distance lines are necessary for these absolute measurements
very significant difficulties and costs in laying and maintaining them
plenty of time to set up and dismantle, so that one can take advantage of a process
which also gives an indication of how the potential gradient is at the
Place any measured equipotential line (or an area in the soil itself)
changes without needing this unwieldy structure.
Gibt man dann z.
A measure of the actual current strength in the ground and thus also,
if you know the distance between the equipotential lines, for the conductivity of the subsurface

Distance from each other attaches two probes for taking the current and the electric ones

Resistances, etc. containing circuit determined. Are you then z. B. the resistors
in. your circuit formed in this way different values one after the other, so one can look after
known rules for the electromotive force in the circuit and the unknown parts
of the resistance (in this case the earth resistance). Is searched
in the main the voltage difference between the two probes, «-elche
contained as the sole electromotive force in the circuit referred to above
is. This can therefore be calculated from such series of measurements and results in .divided
the voltage gradient due to the distance between the two probes, "-what sought
will. You also get the resistance between the two probes in the earth,
and both statements let .then together derive a measure for the current, which
flows in the surface of the earth itself. The procedure is particularly important if
if you cannot measure continuous: @ equipotential lines because, for example, the terrain
is partially inaccessible; one can then only see short pieces of aduipotential lines
measure coherently, and of course these bits get a completely different one
Value for assessing the subsurface in electrical relation, if one too
at the same time the voltage gradient perpendicular to them and the current strength in the ground
has determined.
The investigations into the electrical properties of the subsurface
is now preferably employed with alternating current, where inan the one described above
Examination with the well-known Parallelohniinethocle can be carried out, whereby
results in a particularly cheap, portable measuring device.
Of course you can use the measuring circuit instead as it is here for example
was done to include the use of direct current, when used
of alternating current as a power source for the passage of electricity through the subsoil
To couple galvanically with clean ground, to couple inductively, like Fig. 2 for example
lets see from which the type of circuit can be easily recognized.
By matching values of self-induction, capacities or1, he resistances in this
Circle: .se one after the other and measurement of the then in the circle coupled to the earth
induced current strength can be a measure of the degree of coupling and in each case
for .the amperage ini ground, while in this way .the
Determination of the gradient of the stress, the stress gradient in the ground, not directly
is possible. The distribution of the current in the ground is in itself completely sufficient,
uni the necessary supplement required here to measure the equipotential lines
to surrender.
