Abstract

The burner tube (14) extends through the wall of a furnace (10) into a furnace flue (11), and is connected at its outer end to a fuel gas supply conduit (22). An infra-red pyrometer (17) is mounted adjacent, and in axial alignment with, the outer end of the burner tube, and is sighted onto an internal furnace wall. Pyrometer readings are taken every few minutes, while the fuel gas flow is briefly interrupted.
