Description
Process for obtaining a particularly suitable briquetting agent Bituminous fuel tar. The well-known process, from lignite only No end product of high calorific value is capable of producing briquettes by pressing them together to deliver. First of all, the briquette must be more or less high. Water content otherwise it will absorb moisture from the air and burst. Second included The briquette still contains all those non-combustible bodies that are also in ier raw coal to find oneself. These non-flammable components naturally reduce the calorific value.
In addition, however, this method is only simple briquetting Applicable to those coals which, due to their high bitumen content, are sufficient Have cohesive power. In the case of coals of a different nature, a binding agent must be added will.
To circumvent this need, it was proposed to use coal subject to partial distillation until the volatile Hydrocarbons removed and only the heavy hydrocarbons left was. Since these usually have a high binding power, the coal should then be briquettable will. Apart from the fact that the yield ratios such procedures almost always condemn to inefficiency, it should be noted that when using partial Distillation precisely those hydrocarbons that are removed from the coal give it the high calorific value and cause a long-flame burning. It was also tried to bind coal with binders previously at a high temperature were brought together, whereby the bitumen through the hot binder softened in the coal and caking should be achieved.
That any of these procedures have gained particular importance, has not become known. These known 'methods are based on errors regarding the chemical nature of the coals, and these errors result in inefficiency the process of expression, but also in the fact that an end product is achieved, which lack the properties of a good flame coal and the high calorific value; it be because that this disadvantage by adding correspondingly large amounts of binding agent, which already have a high calorific value.
But now it is known that in the distillation of coal with increasing Different phases are run through at temperature. So z. B. at temperatures up to 16o ° almost exclusively excreted next to water: acetic acid, carbonic acid, Hydrogen sulfide, etc., so only components of no or only very little Calorific value. It has recently become known that with further heating to temperatures up to about 25o ° and with a correspondingly long exposure to this temperature, even before distill over the light hydrocarbons, preferably the huminsaureii compounds decompose with elimination of water and release of carbonic acid. This reaction is finitely identical to the destruction of those organic compounds the usual drying of the coal up to 10 ° (as it is for the purpose of investigation common is) their water (crystal water) given off, but when stored in the air eager to take up water again. So these are those bodies (-lie to that lead to the aforementioned disintegration of the briquette.
If one goes now to the fractional distillation of bituminous fuels in such a way that after drying they can be kept for a long time at about zoo to 26o °, so heated just below the phase of tar formation, even if not volatile Components escape more, and they only then by heating up to about 35o ° subjected to a distillation, one obtains strange and hitherto unknown Results.
This is how you get a tar. which differs from the previously known light ones Tars are different. It has a particularly high binding power and is therefore suitable under certain conditions mainly as a binder for briquetting purposes. In addition, the amounts of tar that are extracted in this way are greater than they have been obtained up to now became. But the remaining coal also shows previously unknown properties, both chemically and physically, in so far as they, by name int the hot state, is very receptive to tar or tar oils.
The tar obtained in this way, as well as the distillation residue, differ thus differ significantly from those products that are produced with ordinary distillation the coal can be obtained at a low temperature, regardless of whether such distillation is carried out fractionally or in one go.
These peculiarities are due to the fact that in the long-lasting first distillation phase at about zoo to 26o ° in the coal substantial intramolecular Conversions take place that result in a considerable enrichment of the bitumina equal.
With the tar obtained as described above (preferably in hot state) milled and pressed, the residue results in a briquette of very high calorific value and excellent burning properties.
The procedure is carried out as follows, for example: First the coal is dried. For this purpose, any drying devices can be used Design are used. Because a certain moisture content is not paused must be, as is necessary in ordinary briquetting, drying can be carried out more economically and faster than with today's briquetting systems usual drying devices.
The dried coal then goes into retort or similar ovens, the by-products that can be otherwise used (acetic acid, Nitrogen), but especially to collect the tar, provided in a known manner are. If, when heating the coal, non-condensable, flammable gases (hydrocarbon gases) pass over, the same are used for heating.
In these Üfen the coal is first of all for a long enough time Subject to the maximum temperature which, without significant tar excretion, is aimed at causes intramolecular rearrangement. Then the temperature is raised to such an extent that until and as long as tar of the desired kind passes over. The former temperature is generally between zoo and 26o ° C, the further temperature between 26o and 35o °.
The coal coming out of the furnace is very crumbly and brittle, can be so chop very well for briquetting. This fact is of great economic importance Significance insofar as with many coals the crushing of the distillation residues difficult and therefore expensive.
The coal that comes out of the furnace and has cooled down a little can then still be used - preferably in a hot state - together with the tar obtained, in suitable Grind grinds and then briquetted in a known manner.
The briquettes have a very high heating power and burn with only a little smoking flame and are extremely weather and storage resistant.
At first it may seem as if it were more economical after the previous one Briquetting process to work because the proposed process more complicated is. However, a closer examination reveals a different picture. First, the Make drying much more economical, then there are considerable costs saved in the crushing and finally a briquette is obtained, according to that its high calorific value and its excellent burning properties are significant has a higher market value than the ordinary briquette. What is of value in the exhaust can also be obtained as a by-product (as acetic lime, sulfuric acid Ammonia or the like), unless it is already used as a heating material supplement in the course of the process or is used as a binder.
-'The process can be used except for lignite, especially peat, and also for some types of coal and certain types of wood , the processing of wood waste into briquettes being particularly suitable. - '
