Abstract
Stacks of sheets, plates, bars or cages contg. smaller articles of metal or non-metal (ceramics) are treated by circulating hot or cold gas by a radial fan in the ceiling of the furnace which passes the gas to two vertical descending ducts on both sides with an offset from each other. Each duct is opposed on the opposite wall by an ascending duct which leads to the suction intake of the fan. This results in the horizontal gaps in the stacks being traversed by four streams with an alternating direction of flow.
