Abstract
In this method of securing an offshore platform on site, a floating basin is moored to the sea bed by tension elements kept taut by the buoyancy of the basin. The offshore platform is mounted within the basin at a height that enables the platform top to remain above water level even under adverse sea conditions. The length of the mooring lines is adjusted so that the platform is bulkhead off from the surrounding water by the wall of the basin, which is pref. circular. The inner space of the basin is partly flooded, and the buoyancy forces are controlled by the flood level, which can be varied to suit sea conditions. A number of variants of these arrangements are claimed.
