Description
Process to prevent overheating of melt material. The pause The lowest possible casting temperature is particularly important for the mechanical Properties of the castings. For a Kttpfer-aluminum alloy with percent copper For example, the breaking strength at a casting temperature of 770 ° is reduced by about 56 percent and the elongation around 65 percent compared to a cast at 65o ° Piece. With the temperature, however, the tendency to absorb gases also increases as a result Oxidation and dissolution as well as for the separation of individual components by burning.
Even if today the most expedient casting temperatures of the various Metals and alloys are well known, but most companies are missing suitable devices for measuring the same.
It is true that various measurement methods have become known in which a number of melting bodies with known melting points in the manner of Seger cones, which are hung or inserted in the melting furnace, melt one after the other. However, these melting bodies only indicate the temperature in the furnace itself, which is often the case deviates considerably from the temperature of the melting material. A store or Placing it on the liquid melt itself is inexpedient because it is practical is hardly feasible, a number of melting bodies with different degrees of melting to alloy in such a way that the properties of the melt material are affected by the access of the melted body is not adversely affected. Constant observation however, the measuring body which melts one after the other requires special attention of the smelter, which in addition to the cumbersome handling, the general use this procedure prevented. However, this makes it completely impossible to determine the exact temperature when melting small amounts of metal, e.g. B. in melting ladles for pouring bearings o. The like. Here, the melting material is almost always overheated, whereby a large part of the most valuable metals burns out, so that the casting is the ones placed on it Can no longer meet demands.
The new procedure, however, as a result of its simple, every error exclusive handling of 'every worker, even when melting down the smallest Quantities in melting ladles, as this is only a single melting body made of metal or metal alloys is used, which at a certain temperature almost suddenly the uni melts, giving the sign to pour out the melted material. As soon as the melt has melted down, the slag cover is from the middle removed from the crucible or melting ladle and the one intended for the respective alloy Melting body placed on the liquid metal bath; the dissolving of it then gives the sign of pouring out without drawing the attention of the smelter particularly is used.
The molten measuring body remains in the melt and can, there only one alloy comes into question, alloyed from constituents "- earths which the Improve the properties of the melt material.
To oxidize the surface of the metal bath to avoid, the melting bodies can be connected to a deoxidizing mass, which melts immediately on contact with the hot metal surface and covers it, such as alkali carbonates, borax or the like be enveloped or partially or completely enclose it, in order to also simultaneously to protect the melting body against oxidation.
