Brake accelerator for air brakes. The invention relates to
on a brake accelerator for compressed air brakes, in which by local ventilation
the main line when braking an accelerated and even braking effect in the
whole train is reached and its main line venting valve through
a piston is controlled, the one hand under the pressure of the main line and
on the other hand is under the pressure of an expansion chamber. Compared to known such
The subject of the invention is characterized by the fact that a brake accelerator
the expansion chamber is also connected to the open air during braking
is connected to the control piston with play that it only opens when
the main line venting valve is already open, so that in a short time
Pressure equilibrium on both sides of the control piston and then on the main line side
an overpressure is created compared to the pressure on the chamber side,
which will soon return the piston to its normal position and thus the valves
closes, so that unnecessary losses of compressed air are avoided without the effect
the brake accelerator is impaired.
Längsschnitt in schematischer. Darstellungsweise veranschaulicht.
In the drawing, a brake accelerator according to the invention is in
Longitudinal section in schematic. Representation illustrated. The housing a
is connected to the main line L passed through the train. In the case
there is piston b, which divides the housing into two spaces. The piston is
provided with a small hole o, which is used to bring about the pressure equalization
on both sides of the piston in its normal position and thus to fill the expansion chamber
is used if, after a braking, a pressure decrease has taken place in this
and the piston has returned to its normal position when released. This throttle hole
can also be replaced by the filling groove known from control valves for single-chamber brakes
will. Located in the space of the housing located after the main line connection
a small chamber c, which is passed through a through the housing walls
Stub d is in communication with the open air. Against the inside of the case
this chamber is shut off by a valve e, which is arranged on a cross member g
which is under the influence of a spring f acting towards the closure of the valve e
and has two or more bumpers h guided in the wall of the chamber c,
which end so .tightly in front of the piston b that there is only a small amount of space between them
separates. The expansion chamber located on the side of the piston b is through a
Opening connected to the free air coming through the valve

will. This is in connection with the piston b in such a way that it shifts in the event of a ''
the same in the direction towards the main line only taken by the piston
is after this by means of the rods h and the valve support g the valve o
has opened.
The function of the brake accelerator is as follows: When the brake is released, the pressure on both sides of the piston b is the same. The spring f keeps the line outlet valve e closed in conjunction with the main line pressure acting on it. The valve v of the expansion chamber is also kept closed by the main line pressure prevailing in it. If the main line pressure is now reduced by a small amount for the purpose of service braking, the pressure in the expansion chamber only depresses the piston b so far that it rests on the upper ends of the push rods h; since the pressure difference on both sides of the piston b is only small during service braking, the expansion chamber pressure will not be sufficient to push open the valve e against the action of the spring f and the main line pressure which is on it. The valve v also remains closed. The pressure on both sides of the piston b is quickly equalized through the small bore o, since - as already said - the pressure difference was small.
Expansionskammerdruck der Kolben b rasch nach der Hauptleitungsseite hin bewegt;
.The main line is used to initiate rapid or emergency braking
suddenly and strongly deflated, it is now considerably predominant
Expansion chamber pressure of the piston b rapidly moved toward the main line side;
he pushes the line outlet valve e wide open, so that a sudden powerful
Air extraction occurs at this point in the main line. Shortly after the start of his
Movement he also pulls the valve v from its seat, so that the expansion chamber
is vented; as a result, the pressure on both sides of the piston quickly becomes equal
adjust so that the spring f as well as that on the main line side of the piston
b asserting, although strongly reduced, but the one on the expansion chamber side
almost entirely escaped pressure, predominant main line pressure, the piston in his
Normal position pushes back and the valves e and v closes, so that unnecessary losses
can not enter compressed air, the desired accelerating effect in the
Braking is certainly achieved. .
