Hochvakuummeter.
empfindlicher, direkt anzeigender Hochvakuummeter, deren Empfindlichkeitsbereich
High vacuum meter. It is known that the thermal conductivity of a
Gas is constant within wide limits of the pressure, but that at a very high vacuum,
for example, when the distance between the molecules corresponds to the free path, with the gas density
decreases, so that if one starts out from the absolute vacuum, first of all a proportionality
exists between density and conductivity. This fact allows the construction
sensitive, direct reading high vacuum gauges, their sensitivity range
is precisely in the high vacuum, while it is less useful at a lower vacuum
s_nd. But all previously known vacuum gauges of this type have certain disadvantages,
which make them appear unsuitable for purely technical use. " It is
Now the subject of the present invention is a high vacuum meter with a direct display,
consisting of a mercury thermometer, the tubular one of which, the
Ouecksaber containing piston from a cylindrical, gas-tight attached tube
is surrounded, which with the recipient, whose vacuum is to be measured, in
Connection, whereby the mercury of the thermometer by as constant as possible,
externally supplied energy heated «-irl.
Der Gegenstand der Erfindung sei an Hand des Ausführungsbeispieles
der Abbildung näher erläutert. The subject matter of the invention is based on the exemplary embodiment
explained in more detail in the illustration.
It means k the bulb of the thermometer holding the mercury c1, L the capillary in which the mercury rises when the collagen is warmed up, h a gas-light melted glass tube enveloping the bulb k with the connecting piece e for connecting the vacuum gauge to the recipient. in is a spherical widening of the capillary at the end of 1. a and b are in. the tubes li and k are fused contact wires that are in conductive connection with the mercury q. f, c, d are trademarks, but they can also be replaced by fused platinum wires.
The mode of operation of this high vacuum meter is as follows: First, the nozzle e is connected gas-tight to the recipient, then [from an energy source that is as constant as possible through: a and b electrical current is passed into the mercury q and this is brought to a temperature such that it extends exactly to mark c in the capillary. When the thermometer is not heated, the meniscus of the mercury is below the mark f. If the recipient is now evacuated, the thermal conductivity of the air in the cylindrical cavity between h and k decreases under a high vacuum, and the mercury finally reaches the practically achievable maximum vacuum the mark d. The position of the meniscus is a measure of the vacuum level in the recipient. In order to avoid heat dissipation by radiation as far as possible, the piston k is surrounded by a reflective skin. The sensitivity of the high vacuum meter is greater, the finer the capillary. On the other hand, if the cross-section of the capillary is chosen to be too small, the tendency for the silver thread to tear and stick is very great. However, this disadvantage can be avoided if the space above your mercury is filled with a highly compressed gas, e.g. B. the indifferent nitrogen, fills. This has a twofold advantage, firstly because, under high pressure, the temperature of the mercury is higher, and secondly because it prevents the thread from tearing. The high boiling temperature allows the selection of a high heating temperature for the flask k,; o (ia that the flow of the room temperature change is negligible for the technically correct operation of the vacuum gauge. The compression pressure of the gas above the mercury can be many atmospheres: but time a little Avoid high stress on the glass walls 1-ei high heating of the mercury ill) ers zti, the spherical dome shown in the figure is required, which prevents a significant increase in pressure. Instead of supplying the energy to the mercury of the vacuum gauge itself, resistance wires can also heat the bulb k from the outside or be passed through the mercury of the koi. The radial distance between the enveloping tube h and the bulb il should not be too great So that the inertia of the instrument shows as low a value as possible It is advisable to keep the distance smaller than the free path of the gas molecules at the normal value of the high vacuum.
