Abstract

In this method for cooling and removing dust from coke in at least two stages, in the first stage the coke is cooled to 400-800 deg.C. It is then continuously and quickly drawn through a water-immersion bath, after which it is held in a steam atmos. in a closed re-evaporation tank. In the first stage, the coke can be indirectly cooled to about 600 deg.C, and this can be done by heat transfer to cooling surfaces either in a cooling-shaft or on a conveyor. Alternatively, the coke can be directly cooled to about 400 deg.C, or cooled to about 650-700 deg.C by steam in parallel flow. The coke can remain in the immersion bath for less than 3 minutes (pref. for 10-60 sec.). It can be held in the re-evaporation tank for less than 30 minutes (pref. 5-15 min.), and can be withdrawn at 40-80 deg.C with uniform water-content. Steam drawn from the immersion tank can be transferred to the crude-gas cleaning side of the coking plant and fresh water can be added, as required, to the tank. Water laden with coke particles can be drawn from the immersion tank, substantially freed from the dust, cooled, and returned to the tank.
