Die Muffe besitzt in der Mitte einen das Wellenstück umgebenden Hohlraum 10, zu welchem ein Rohr 9 führt, das mit einer Wasserleitung in Verbindung steht. Das Wellenstück ist mit mehreren zu der zentralen Bohrung führenden üffnungen 11 versehen, durch welche das in den Hohlraum 10 unter Druck gelangende Wasser in das Wellenstück und von hier in die Rohrwelle und zu dem Bohrkopf gelangt. Da mehrere öffnungen 11 zu der zentralen Bohrung 6 führen, ist ein Eintreten des Wassers trotz der schnellen Umdrehung der Welle gewährleistet, wobei ein Austreten des Wassers zwischen Muffe und Wellenstück durch die Stopfbüchsen verhindert wird.
