Die Arena besteht aus einer runden, mit Holz bekleideten Metallscheibe C, welche von dem Kolben B der hydraulischen Presse A über einer mehrere Meter tiefen Vertiefung gehalten wird und in dieser auf- und abbewegt werden kann. Wenn diese Scheibe in der in der Zeichnung befindlichen Stellung sich befindet, so kann sie wie jede Arena eines Circus für equilebristische und ähnliche Schaustellungen benutzt werden. Soll dagegen die Arena für nautische Vorstellung oder für die Vorführung wilder Thiere benutzt werden, so versenkt man die Scheibe C durch Niederlassen des Kolbens B. Die rings um den Kolben B angebrachten Pfosten E versenken sich dabei in die entsprechenden Führungsschächte F. Alsdann läfst man die Scheibe C etwas nieder, worauf sie am Rande auf die Sockel a, in der Nähe der Mitte aber mit den Pfosten E auf dem Boden der Arena zu ruhen kommt und auf diese Weise für die ausübenden Künstler eine feste und sichere Bahn bietet. Der Rand der Scheibe C ist dort, wo sich die Sockel a vor der Drehung der Scheibe befinden, mit entsprechenden Einschnitten versehen, die gleichzeitig mit den Pfosten D der Sockel α dem Rande der Scheibe bei deren Auf- und Niedergange als Führung dienen.
