Abstract

The existing defect with exhaust turbocharged engines of producing high smoke and soot values when the engine oil is cold can be prevented in that the turbocharger shaft is lubricated and cooled using diesel oil instead of engine oil.

Description

The lubrication of exhaust gas turbochargers with the viscous Engine oil prevents the necessary turbocharger speed cold engine. Avoiding smoke bursts when loading acceleration of diesel engines with exhaust gas turbocharging an important one, especially with regard to almost all emissions technical task. It has been shown that the friction an even greater role in the bearing of the turbine shaft plays, the colder the outside temperature and the tougher that Is lubricant. The transition from oil-lubricated gliding fluid ger to the ball bearing or even the air bearing of the turbines For technical reasons, wave has not been able to go through leads, so that a reduction in lubricant friction would mean significant progress. It is not only smoke that is currently dependent on this lubricant bumps when accelerating an engine, but also the NOx, CH and CO emissions from load changes.

For this reason, the permanent or temporary one switching the turbine lubrication circuit into the fuel cycle suggested.

As is well known, the diesel fuel from the tank into the Injection pump promoted with increased excess to ver avoid that a heat build-up inside the injection pump Fuel arises. This excess amount, so for the injection is not needed and back to the tank runs, is now according to the slide bearing of the Turbocharger directed. The viscosity of the diesel fuel is so low, especially when cold, that the turbines wave can be accelerated much faster. A Switching to the engine's lubricating oil would be helpful a thermostat possible at high lubricating oil temperature,  is provided according to the invention only in the event that the quality of the plain bearing when the engine is hot on the order circuit relies on lubricating oil.

With alternative fuels, such as. B. difficult to ignite Alcohols and vegetable oils that are difficult to evaporate there is a requirement that an additional tank of diesel contains fuel, for a good start of the engine must be taken care of. This additional tank in the heat insulated Including the engine compartment also offers the opportunity very cold days good flowable diesel oil for the Schmie of the turbine shaft. That has the Advantage that the annoying and polluting smoke bursts be avoided when starting the cold engine.

Fig. 1 shows the circuit diagram of the turbine bearing lubrication with fuel where ( 1 ) the fuel tank ( 2 ) the fuel pump, ( 3 ) the injection pump, ( 4 ) the line to the turbine, ( 5 ) the bearing of the turbine shaft and ( 6 ) the return line to the tank. The pressure relief valve ( 7 ), which ensures the admission pressure for the injection pump elements, can serve as a metering valve for the turbine bearing lubrication. In this case, a bypass line ( 8 ) to the return line ( 6 ) is provided.

In Fig. 2, the additional tank ( 1 ) with the feed pump ( 2 ) is connected to the lines ( 3 ) and ( 4 ). The line ( 3 ) leads the diesel oil to the turbine bearing ( 5 ). It flows back to the tank ( 1 ) via the line ( 6 ). The fairing ( 7 ) keeps the space for the tank ( 1 ), injection pump ( 8 ) and engine ( 9 ) so warm that the diesel oil in the tank ( 1 ) does not stare at it. The injection pump ( 8 ) is supplied with fuel either via the line ( 4 ) or via the lines ( 10 ) and ( 11 ) and the tank ( 12 ). At particularly low temperatures, the auxiliary tank and the exhaust gas turbine are kept warm by a burner ( 13 ) which is started when the engine is stopped and is arranged within the engine cowling.
