Abstract

A supercharged diesel internal combustion engine for vehicles, especially passenger motor vehicles, has a supercharger assembly and an injection pump, with a device for limiting the maximum delivery, producing the fuel feed to the internal combustion engine. In contrast to known supercharged diesel internal combustion engines it is proposed that the device for limiting the maximum delivery of the injection pump be set to a value essentially applying to diesel internal combustion engines without supercharging, solely for the purpose of reducing pollutant emissions, especially in operation of the vehicle at greater altitudes.

Description

The invention relates to a diesel burner working with charging Engine for vehicles, in particular passenger vehicles, according to the preamble of claim 1.

Conventional diesel engines that work without charging, so So-called naturally aspirated diesel engines, are usually related to their torque designed so that they are at a height of about 0-500 m above Normal zero (NN) is the black prescribed for reasons of air purity do not exceed smoke limit. According to the achievable performance the individual engine components are then considered taking into account the desired Service life designed as inexpensively as possible.

When operating such naturally aspirated diesel engines at high altitudes lower air density the performance of the internal combustion engine strongly and equally in time there is a strong black smoke emission (particle emission).

Such diesel engines are now out with superchargers equip, be it turbochargers or mechanical superchargers, then this happened So far only for the purpose of achieving the maximum achievable performance Increase diesel engine. Here too, therefore, that of power Injection pump assigned device for maximum quantity limitation set such a value when operating at normal altitude no excessive black smoke occurred between 0 and 500 m above sea level or the increased component load due to charging and increased performance was still manageable with reasonable technical effort. With these ago conventional, charged diesel internal combustion engines still had to additional, costly measures are taken.

The object on which the invention is based is now to provide a diesel To create internal combustion engine, the performance of which is largely independent of the respective geodetic height of the operating location and its pollutant emission is reduced.

This object is achieved in accordance with the features of the claim 1. In that according to the invention equipped with a charging unit Suction diesel internal combustion engine is used, in which the maximum quantities limit is set to a value that approximates a suction diesel Internal combustion engine corresponds to and on the component load capacity of the suction motors is matched, the one provided by the supercharger Larger amounts of air essentially used only to reduce pollutant emissions and reduce performance losses when operating at higher altitudes. Soon other special measures that increase manufacturing costs can be taken in good time to adjust the component strength to that normally due to the higher specific performance increased loads are waived. The thermi cal load, especially of the exhaust gas-carrying components, is due to of the higher excess air.

The power and torque of the supercharged diesel engine designed in this way Internal combustion engines are compared to uncharged diesel internal combustion engines seem light due to the higher available air flow raised, the maximum amount of fuel injected substantially about the maximum amount of a corresponding diesel that works without charging motors corresponds. The boost pressure, the power and the torque are according to the component strength of the suction diesel engine used as the basis designed so that the manufacturing costs of the gas office engine essentially only the cost of the charging unit, which is used as a turbocharger or as a mechanical one Loader can be designed to be increased. For the rest, this is more expenditure in the order of magnitude for the use of a special party kelfilters required to reduce particle emissions at high altitudes would. However, when using the diesel internal combustion engine according to the invention such a particle filter can be dispensed with without the particles emission impermissibly high values, not even when operating the vehicle in high altitudes. In addition, however, there is an approximately constant one Performance, even at higher geodetic heights, because of the lower  Airtight charge loss caused there by the charging unit supplied excess air is balanced. In addition, due to the higher inlet temperatures of the air caused by the charging unit the total hydrocarbon emissions in the diesel engine Operating range can be reduced. As a result of the increased excess air the diesel internal combustion engine according to the invention, the exhaust gas recirculation lighter and easier to carry out, there are also better Possibilities for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.

Overall, the invention results in a diesel burner engine that meets the requirements of air purity requirements Conditions for pollutant emissions even when operating at higher altitudes better met without reducing the performance of the internal combustion engine got to. On the contrary, the performance can even be increased slightly and it this also results in cheaper fuel consumption, with the additional measures to be used at least do not require any major additional effort as special measures to eliminate particle emissions, such as the attachment of a particle filter.
