Description

Electrode for electricity meters, in which gases go into solution electrolytically and are eliminated. Patent specification 320332 describes an electrode for electricity meters, b ei which gases go into solution electrolytically and are excreted, and this electrode is intended to fulfill the task of contacting the electrolyte and at the same time one of the separated gases. In the patent mentioned, the electrode is made for this purpose either from a sheet made of platinum or a similar material and with which one or more cells are lined which are so narrow that the surface tension of the electrolyte prevents it from entering, or from a mesh or a perforated plate made of platinum or a similar material, with which a relatively wide cell is closed, the meshes or the holes are so narrow that the electrolyte is again prevented from entering. It is always ensured, either by the size of the cells or by their closure, that the interior of the cells is filled with the gas in question, so that the edges of the cells or the edges of the openings in their closure wall, and only the edges, are always at the same time border on the electrolyte and the gas.

The uniformity in the effect of such electrodes is apparently based ensure that the area with which the metal electrode adjoins the electrolyte, is very small compared to the area with which the gas it holds to the Electrolyte borders. According to the invention, the use of the expensive platinum or one of the substances related to it is restricted by the fact that the electrode is made of coke produced and filled with a hydrogen-activating metal (e. B. platinum, platinum bog, iridium or rhodium) is coated. In electrolysis the pores of such an electrode fill with the gas, while the electrolyte is prevented from entering due to its surface tension. The new electrode still has the advantage that that which is eliminated from the electrolyte and in their Pores not ingested gas from time to time and doing so as a larger bubble replaces it, as it is dealt with there according to the patent specification mentioned Electrodes is the case, but that it is due to the many tips of the coke particles persistent and peeled off as small vesicles. So that serves on an electrode of the new type of excreted gas as a measure of the flow through the meter in question Amount of electricity, the information on this counter does not step by leaps and bounds, but gradually gone.
