Ofen mit beheiztem Innenraum zum Erzeugen von Fe₂B-Schichten auf Werkstücken aus Eisenbasislegierungen in dem Ofeninnenraum, dem borhaltiges Gas BCl3 in einem wählbaren Gemisch aus N2- und/oder H2-Gasen unter Atmo­ sphärendruck zugeführt wird und bei dem die den Ofenin­ nenraum umschließenden metallischen Flächen mit einer die Aufnahme von Bor verhindernde Schutzschicht versehen sind, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die metallischen Teile im Ofenraum mit gegen Borhalogenide inerten Keramiken beschichtet bzw. ausgekleidet sind.1.
