Description

Process for the preparation of water-soluble condensation products. It it has been found that water-soluble condensation products are obtained when naphthalene is used or higher aromatic hydrocarbons or their hydroxyl-free derivatives in Presence of a sulfating agent or sulfonic acids of the compounds mentioned with carbohydrates such as cellulose or starch, their higher breakdown products or Sugar condenses and, after the reaction has taken place, any mineral acid still present in its entirety or the main thing removed b @ ziv. neutralized. The condensation takes place ape beautiful. instead of at ordinary temperature. The products obtained can be converted into use them in various ways, for example produce them especially in the presence suitable metal compounds lacquer-like deposits in solutions of basic dyes.

The condensation of the easily reacting phenol sulfonic acids with carbohydrates as well as the sulfonic acids of aromatic hydrocarbons with the reactive formaldehyde is already known. Surprisingly, however, there are also hydroxyl-free aromatic Sulphonic acids with carbohydrates, which always react slowly and are easily decomposable, such as sugar, cellulose, starch and the like, to water-soluble condensation products would be able to unite was in no way foreseeable.

Beispiel z. Example -roo parts of cellulose are cooled and stirred well registered in 1500 parts concentrated sulfuric acid. After everything went into solution and a sample remains clear even when diluted with water, add 192 parts fine: powdered naphthalene admitted and allowed to avoid excessive temperature increase stir until all the naphthalene has gone into solution and also no naphthalene sulfonic acid is more detectable.

.This is the case. if one is converted into sodium salt in the usual way Sample, saturated in concentrated solution with common salt, even after prolonged standing: standing no crystalline: precipitate of naphthalenesulfonate of soda is more. It is then poured into water, neutralized with milk of lime and, after separation, set Before the precipitated plaster of paris, the calcium salt solution in the usual way with soda. the The solution filtered off from the calcium carbonate leaves behind the sodium on evaporation: alz of the condensation product as a brownish mass which is easily soluble in water. The watery one Solution falls, namely in the presence of suitable metal compounds, such as. B. aluminum sulfate, basic dyes in the form of fine precipitates suitable for paint purposes. .

Beispiel 2.One proceeds in an analogous way when one passes the naphthalene through another polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, such as. B. anthracene, phenanthrene, etc., or replaced by their hydroxy1-free derivatives, or if instead of cellulbs e other carbohydrates such as starch, dextrin, sugar and the like are used. example 2.

The procedure is as in Example i, replacing the naphthalene used there by naphthalene, B-sulphosate of soda. The brown sodium salt of the condensation product Easily dissolves in water with brown, in concentrated sulfuric acid with violet Colour. When heated to dryness, it carbonizes without melting and splitting off sulphurous acid.

Beispiel 3. Example 3.

The procedure is as in Example z, replacing the naphthalene used there by 240 parts of a-chloronaphthalene. The brown condensation product dissolves easily in water with brown, in concentrated sulfuric acid with brown-red color.
