Description
Process for improving the odor of sulphate pulp production or the like. Obtained turpentine oil. . It is well known that they are contained in cellulose production So-called sulfate pentine oils formed as a by-product after the sulfate process or the like foul-smelling sulphide compounds (mercaptans) that make it difficult to utilize these oils. All attempts to permanently remove these sulfide compounds have so far failed. The present invention achieves the object by treating said sulphate turpentine oils with metal oxides or the corresponding metals, especially iron, the dissolved in alkalis such as ammonia, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, with heating to ioo to i2o ° with or without pressure increase and simultaneous exposure to hydrogen, whereby the sulfur compounds of the corresponding metals are formed.
Beispiel. Example. 500 kg of sulphate turpentine oil are heated in the claws of a car to 100 to 120 ° with 25 kg of 2o percent sodium hydroxide solution, in which either 21 / a kg of zinc oxide or 2 kg of black lead are dissolved. If necessary, the heating can also take place without increasing the pressure. The turpentine oil treated in this way is then washed and fractionated. distilled. Corresponding amounts of potassium hydroxide or ammonia can be used in place of the sodium hydroxide solution, and corresponding amounts of the corresponding metal or iron in place of the metal oxides. During the treatment, hydrogen is allowed to act on the sulphate turpentine oil, whereby the unsaturated compounds of the oil, which, like some of the saturated compounds, are present as sulphides (\ lerkaptans), are accelerated by catalysis and become sulfur-free and hydrogen accumulate or become saturated and odorless . The desired effect occurs in 1 to 5 hours with this treatment. The pressure to be used, if necessary, can be, for example, 1 / "to 3 atm.
