Abstract
1. Fuel injection nozzle comprising a valve member which is urged against a valve seat in a valve chamber by means of a valve member spring (14) and the end of which remote from the valve seat extends into a chamber (15) that can be filled with fuel and accommodates the valve member spring (14), and a solenoid valve (8) for controlling the injection which in its open position connects the pressure chamber (9) of an injection pump with a spill conduit, characterised in that in a pumping chamber (31) of the fuel injection nozzle a plunger (13) is provided, and the pumping chamber (31) is connected to a conduit leading from the pressure chamber (9) of the injection nozzle to the valve chamber, and the end of the plunger (13) extending remotely from the pumping chamber rests upon the valve member spring (14), that the fuel pressure in said conduit acts upon the other end of the plunger (13), that the active cross-sectional area of the plunger (13) is greater than the cross-sectional area of the valve member, and that within the whole range of speed and load the plunger (13) performs its working stroke against the force of the spring before, at the beginning of the injection, the valve member is being lifted.
