Das ursprüngliche Döbereiner'sche Feuerzeug hat im Laufe der Zeit mannichfache Verbesserungen erfahren, welche sich hauptsächlich auf die Anordnung der eigentlichen Zündvorrichtung bezogen. Trotz aller dieser Verbesserungen blieb aber der Mechanismus unvollkommen und daher versagte oft die Zündung; er war nicht regulirbar, denn die einzelnen Theile der Vorrichtung waren entweder aus einem Stücke, oder fest mit einander verbunden, so dafs jede genaue Einstellung der verschiedenen Theile unmöglich war; und gerade bei diesen Platin-Zündmaschinen ist ein richtiges und genaues Aufeinanderwirken der verschiedenen Mechanismen bei der Zündung eine Hauptbedingung, deren Erfüllung die allgemeine Einführung dieser Art Feuerzeuge begünstigen mufs. Das Gefäfs A ist durch einen Deckel g verschlossen, auf welchem die einzelnen Theile der Zündvorrichtung befestigt sind. Durch die im Gefäfs A befindliche verdünnte Schwefelsäure und durch den Zinkkolben c, der vom Glascylinder d umschlossen ist, wird Wasserstoff entwickelt.
