Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a filter for diesel fuels, with a filter housing, with a fuel inlet and a fuel outlet, as well as with an in Filter housing arranged between inlet and outlet Filter insert.
Filters of this type are known and are used with the Fuel transported dirt particles in front of the engine intercept to malfunctions of the injection system and a to prevent increased wear of the engine.
A disadvantage of such filters is that they lead to clogging tend to when at low temperatures Elimination of paraffin crystals in diesel fuel is coming. At these low temperatures, the diesel fuel is in itself still flowable, but cannot get more through the filter. Therefore poses in the cold season often the fuel filter the weak point represents reliable engine operation prevented.
It is known that in the feed line to the fuel Filters, especially for heavy commercial vehicles to install an electrical heating system, but this represents is a separate component that is complex to manufacture, the installation space required and that a considerable cost factor represents. Another disadvantage is that a such a heating system does not work directly where it is most necessary, namely on the filter insert, but even earlier in the course of the supply line.
It is therefore the task of a filter for To create diesel fuel of the type mentioned at the beginning, which avoids the disadvantages listed, and in particular permeability even at low temperatures guaranteed compared to filters without a heating system no additional installation space required that is reliable works, and which is easy and inexpensive to manufacture is.
This object is achieved in accordance with the invention a filter for diesel fuel of the type mentioned Kind by means of electrical heating of the filter insert. This ensures that where there is interference the filter permeability occur, namely on Filter insert itself, which is used to break down the paraffin crystals required heat is generated. Thus, a maximum Effect achieved with minimal energy consumption.
Advantageously, it is provided that at least one PTC resistance element (p ositiv- t emperature- oefficient c) is disposed on the filter insert in heat conducting contact therewith. Such elements, known per se, have an electrical resistance which rises sharply with increasing temperature, which leads to a self-regulating effect. This automatically limits the temperature of the element. Additional monitoring and control elements are therefore not necessary.
In order to heat up quickly and as evenly as possible to ensure the filter insert, there is the filter insert expediently from a heat-conducting, preferably metallic material. Particularly suitable for this is a fabric made of phosphor bronze wire.
A particularly advantageous form and arrangement of the filter insert and PTC resistance element is that the filter insert is shaped like a into the filter housing protruding truncated cone, the base of which with the Filter housing is sealingly connected on the outlet side that the PTC resistance element in the form of a circular disk and that the PTC resistance element on the free, inlet-side end of the truncated cone-shaped filter insert is put on. The cold fuel hits like this after flowing into the filter housing the top of the PTC resistance element and flows then heated approximately radially from the outside in through the Filter insert. At the same time, the stake itself the PTC resistance element is heated immediately, so that paraffin crystals already deposited there again be dismantled.
When using a metallic filter insert can to reduce the number of parts required, d. H. specifically to save a supply cable to the PTC Resistance element, use as a power supply serve one of the two poles of the PTC resistance element. When using a metallic filter housing can a connection advantageously on the outside of the Filter housing can be placed. It also warms up here the filter insert additionally due to its ohmic resistance.
A preferred embodiment of the invention explained in more detail below with the aid of a drawing. The only figure of the drawing shows a filter of the beginning mentioned type according to the present invention in Longitudinal section.
As the figure shows, the illustrated embodiment of the filter 1 essentially consists of a filter housing 11, 12 and a filter insert 2 . The filter housing 11, 12 is carried out in a manner known per se and consists of a cup-shaped upper part 11 with an inlet 13 in the form of a hose connector 13 ' and from a cup-shaped upper part 11 on the underside of the bottom part 12 with an outlet 14 , also in the form a hose connector 14 ' . The two housing parts 11 and 12 are screwed or glued together and sealed against one another by a sealing ring 15 . The filter insert 2 arranged in the interior of the filter housing 11, 12 has the shape of a truncated cone. Its base 21 is fixed in a groove 28 which is filled with adhesive and runs in the base part 12 of the housing 11, 12 . A PTC resistance element 3 is arranged on the free end 22 of the filter insert 2 . The PTC resistance element 3 and filter insert 2 can be connected, for example, by gluing or soldering. In order to enlarge the heat transfer area between the PTC resistance element and the filter insert 2 , the element 3 is provided with a projection 31 running around the outer edge of its underside 33 , on the inside of which the upper end 22 of the filter insert rests. The PTC resistor element 3 is supplied with power via two cables 35 and 36 . One of the two cables 35, 36 is led to the first pole of the element 3 on its upper side 32 , while the second pole, namely the lower side 33 of the element 3, is connected to the other of the two cables 35, 36 via the filter insert 2 . Of course, this presupposes that the filter insert 2 is electrically conductive, wherein, as already mentioned, a fabric made of phosphor bronze wire is preferably used for this. The cables 35 and 36 are of course sealingly guided through the housing 11, 12 , in the exemplary embodiment shown approximately parallel to the outlet 14 through the housing base 12 .
The invention thus becomes a filter for diesel fuel created that is compact and reliable in the Function as well as easy and inexpensive to manufacture is, and especially on smaller engines, such as them used in passenger cars, useful to use is.
