In the following, the principle on which the invention is based is based
are explained in more detail by supplementary considerations and deductions. To do this,
also refer to the attached figure which is a diagram
shows,
in the one above the logarithm of the quotient of the conductivity of the electrode and
the conductivity of the electrolyte (= x) the quotient of the penetration depth of the bed electrode
with a certain conductivity of the electrode material and the corresponding
Penetration depth with an infinitely small resistance of the electrode material (=
y) is applied.
A die Bettiefe gemäß folgender Formel
For a given concentration and conductivity of the electrolyte, e.g. B. at the inlet of the cell, the bed depth can be calculated from Lit. A using the following formula This formula is based on the assumption that the specific resistance of the electrode material compared to that of the electrolyte is negligibly small. If this restrictive prerequisite is waived and comparable resistances of the electrode and electrolyte are permitted, the bed depth and thus the penetration depth of the limiting current density can be calculated using the following formulas, also from Ref. A.
The depth of penetration of the bed electrode at a certain conductivity
of the electrode or particle material is denoted by h, while the corresponding
Penetration depth, which results in an infinitely small resistance of the electrode material
results, is denoted by ho. In the figure, the quotient h is a function of
of the logarithmic ratio of electrode conductivity to electrolyte conductivity.
This figure shows that the depth of penetration is three-dimensional
Electrode with very high particle conductivity can be increased by about 40%,
if the conductivity of the electrode or the particle potential is chosen to be just as large
becomes like that of the electrolyte.
This curve is based on the following relationship, which is obtained from equations (1) and (2) above: If x is used to denote the real conductivities of the compact phases, then the following relationships apply to the effective conductivities of the disperse phases K: Ks = v xs Kp = (1-v) xp The most important parameter is the ratio of the conductivity of the two phases in the fixed bed. These conductivities depend not only on the material properties, but also on the degree of the gap, ie on the distribution of the two components in the fixed bed. If Kp> K5, a fixed-bed electrode with the largest possible degree of gaps is to be preferred. In addition, this has the advantage that more space is available for the deposition of the metal.
The granulates previously used for fixed beds consist of graphite
and the conductivity of this material is of the order of 100,000 mS / cm
much too big. The conductivity of ordinary graphite felt with approx.
3000 mS / cm is still orders of magnitude higher than the values of many wastewater, namely
often have a conductivity below 10 mS / cm. Therefore, to solve the invention
Task preferably carbon granules or felts are used, which are not
are graphitized, but have a coke-like structure. The annealing processes for manufacture
such materials run at temperatures below 10000 C from while graphitized
Materials with temperatures above 25000 C are produced.
