Die bisherigen Billet-Stempelapparate hatten infolge ihrer Complicirtheit eine Anzahl Nachtheile, die, wenn sie die Sicherheit der Functionirung nicht beeinträchtigen sollten, ungemein viel Zeit raubten. Das hier zur Anwendung gelangte Princip zur Verstellung der Zahlen etc. ist das der Haken- oder Ankerhemmung wie bei Uhren. Auf der Achse α sitzt das Hemmrad b, welches auf dem Mantel seiner Zähne die Typen enthält. In diese Zähne greifen die Zähne α und O₁ eines Ankers c, welcher bei d seinen Drehpunkt hat, und dessen Zahnarme derart geformt sind, dafs es keinen Punkt giebt, in welchem sich das Hemmrad b um mehr als einen Zahn drehen könnte, andererseits darf weder Zahn α noch Ct₁ an die Gravirung der Zahntypen des Rades b streifen.
