Bisher werden länger dauernde Arbeitsleistungen bei sämmtlichen selbstthätigen Apparaten durch Federwerke oder Gewichte verrichtet, welche nach ihrem Ablauf von Menschenhand wieder aufgezogen werden müssen. Da die Natur derartiger Apparate nicht zugiebt, dafs dieselben sehr hoch und sehr voluminös gebaut werden, war die natürliche Folge, dafs weder sehr lange Ketten und Seile für die Zuggewichte angebracht, noch Federgehäuse mit sehr grofsem Durchmesser untergebracht werden konnten, und es war deshalb nöthig, die Gewichte und Federn der Apparate, welche zum Theil, wie z. B. die automatischen Musikwerke, Sprechapparate, Photographie-Automaten u. dergl., sehr viel Kraft zu ihrem Betriebe erfordern, häufig aufzuziehen. Hierzu sind besondere Arbeitskräfte nöthig, die bei. stärkerer Benutzung einiger Apparate den ganzen Tag zu thun haben, um die ihnen unterstellten Apparate stets in betriebsfähigem Zustande zu erhalten, und trotz sorgfältigster.
