Die Bleiglätte hat beispielsweise die Eigenschaft, sich bei hoher Temperatur leicht mit Kieselsäure zu vereinigen, und die Mennige entwickelt bei Rothglühhitze Sauerstoff; das geschmolzene Metall wallt infolge dessen auf. Silicium, Schwefel und Phosphor sollen auf diese Weise sehr rasch entfernt werden.
