Abstract

A pulse generator produces a pulse train consisting of a set of negative pulses having a repetition rate of approximately 200 Hz, divided into groups having a repetition rate of approximately 4Hz. The repetition rate of negative pulses is variable between 100 and 500 Hz and the group repetition rate between 1 and 50 Hz to accommodate the variation in optimum frequency from one patient to another. A positive bias is provided so that the integral of the pulse train is zero. The pulsed signal is randomly switched by switching circuit from one skin stimulus site to another, with stimulus application times adjustable between 1 and 20 seconds, to reduce or eliminate the risk of brain habituation.
