Abstract

The slide valve (31) screw compressor has a valve with a chevron-shape surface, consisting of a pair of curved surfaces. These form parts of the walls of the compressor chamber, accommodating a pair of intermeshed male and female screw rotors. The slide valve is slidable axially of the rotors for connecting the rotor chamber with a suction port via an adjustably variable area providing volumetric compressor control. The slide valve is retractably protruded into a suction casing at a fore end of the side of the suction port (11). The opposite outer corners of the curved surfaces are cut off at the fore end at a preset angle with the axis. This provides a triangular section with a forwardly reduced width at the protruded end.
