Abstract

The ladder has at least one fixed part (12) and at least one sliding part (14), with each part having two side members (16,20) which are connected by rungs (18,22). The lower end of each side member (20) of the sliding part is fitted with a U-shaped bracket (26) which fits closely over a rung (18') of the fixed part. A hinged flap (36) with its hinge axis vertical is attached to the inside surface of the side member aboVe the bracket at such a distance that, when swung outwards, it abuts against the undersurface of the next rung (18).
