Description

Process for the production of a substance suitable for explosives and propellants from ammonium nitrate and carbonaceous substances.

Addition to patent 33-1547 Die after 'the procedure of the main patent 334547 prepared salt mixtures. have due to their great insensitivity a very important safety in handling. In general, this property is very pleasant of course, but it can become a disadvantage if the insensitivity Exceeds a certain limit. On the other hand, the perchlorate explosives even if they have proven to be far less sensitive than the corresponding ones Chlorate explosives in terms of safety in handling and durability at a higher temperature than ammonium nitrate explosives at a disadvantage, especially then when mixtures of perchlorate with ammonia nitrate or other ammonia salts available (see Escales, Chloratsprengs: tofe, Leipzig igio, S: iga, paragraph 2). So show, for example, the perchlorates of aniline and similar amines at lower Very remarkable stability, but explode when heated rapidly to 25o °, while they simply decompose when heated slowly, e.g. B. the aniline perchlorate at 180 ° (cf. Anna! li di chimica applicata 1914, pp. q: 35 to 4q.o). It was now found that on the one hand the perchlorates of ammonia and. of the amine bases can give significantly greater handling security by making them more homogeneous or a nearly homogeneous mixture with the nitrates, oxalates and similar salts, brings in particular the ammonia and the amine bases to use, where .the salt mixture on the other hand, because of the perchlorate content, it gains in reactivity no excessively strong initial spark or encouragement is required. For the purpose of binding of the chlorine released during the explosion or combustion, it is advisable to to give an admixture containing fixed alkali, e.g. B. from: sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate or barite nitrate, possibly with the addition of small amounts of alkaline earth carbonates. Examples: r. Carry in m parts of perchloric acid = 55 parts of an ao percent strength Solution 9.3 parts of aniline, dissolve in this solution after salt formation has occurred 8.5 parts sodium nitrate and 72 parts ammonium nitrate and bring this solution preferably in a thin layer at the lowest possible temperature to dry.

Use the same mixture as in example i, heat after complete drainage has occurred, avoiding excessively high temperatures, up the whole Mass forms a homogeneous melt and let - expediently solidify in a thin layer.
