Abstract
The practice shell (1) is stabilised in rotation and fired at a reduced range relative to that of a live shell of the same direction. It has rotational destabilisation for range and direction to give a similar trajectory to that of a normal shell. A symmetrical cavity (2a) adjusts the weight to that of a normal shell and destabilisation can be by thrusters (3,4) perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. Alternatively it can use a counterweight to give imbalance, formed by an opening in the body.
