Description

Process for making very hard, but more ductile and against breakage more resistant tools made of carbonaceous metals. The invention relates focus on a method of making tools that are very hard but ductile -and are resistant to breakage, made of metals, for example '\?' Grolfram, Titanium, molybdenum, chromium or iron. In addition to tools, the metals obtained can be used can also be used for other purposes. The harsh properties of the previous Materials used in tools are based on their carbon content, where 'either the hardening must be carried out by quenching, or - at a second group - the carbon content itself is the cause of hardness. The first group includes, for example, steel and the various steel alloys, to the second group silicon carbide and tungsten carbide. Both groups have the disadvantage that the hard material is not or. is very little elastic and therefore by forging, Rolling, hammering and pressing processes cannot be processed. Making a Material, which while maintaining its hardness or even increasing the hardness Can be subjected to mechanical machining processes means naturally a great step forward.

The method is practiced so that by casting a body devoid of anyone Carbon-containing or is produced with so little carbon that the Extensibility through salting, forging and the like4. not be affected. This Body has the well-known crystalline structure, so there is little resistance to breakage resilient. It is now thorough by rolling, hammering, forging or pressing machined, which turns its crystalline structure into a fibrous or sinewy Structure is transferred. Then the body is subjected to a known per se It does a cementing process, so it adds carbon and sustains one Body or a tool with the properties given above.

B. Walzen, Hämmern, Schmieden oder Pressen, in eine faserartige Struktur verwandelt und schließlich durch Zementieren Kohlenstoff in ihn übergeführt wird.PATENT CLAIM: Process for the production of very hard but ductile ones and break-resistant tools made from carbon-containing metals, thereby characterized in that a block of metal, e.g. B. tungsten, titanium, molybdenum, chromium or iron, cast without carbon content or with so little carbon content becomes that it remains elastic, that then in a known way its crystalline Structure by machining, e.g. B. rolling, hammering, forging or pressing, transformed into a fibrous structure and finally carbon by cementing it is transferred into him.
