Description

Process for one-sided tinning of sheet iron. For the production Tin cans and the like have so far been tinned almost exclusively on both sides Iron sheet, so-called tinplate, used. That has also proven itself excellently, but assumes a low price of tin, because otherwise the finished product, the Tin can, turns out to be too expensive. With the prevailing tin shortage and thereby the high tin prices caused, attempts have already been made to save on tin, that the tin of one side of the double-sided tinned iron sheet or black sheet sought to regain it by melting. However, this is very cumbersome and poses accordingly expensive. It has also been proposed to use black plate thereby to be tinned on one side, that two metal sheets placed one on top of the other at their edges be firmly and tightly connected to one another by welding or soldering. The one made in this way Double plate should be tinned in the previous way and after completion of the process be broken down again into two panels by cutting off the edges. This too Procedure is cumbersome and expensive, but most importantly, unreliable. Because if that Welding or soldering of the plates at their edges is not carried out completely without errors acid and tin will penetrate between the plates, and the loose separation of the Making plates extremely difficult, if not impossible, after tinning do.

According to the invention, the raw or pickled black sheet is on one side with a coat of earth color or with another acid-resistant, tin-repellent coating, which is baked in the oven. The so prepared Sheet metal is then subjected to the well-known tinning process, in which it is only on the other side, which is not insulated, accepts the tin, while the coated Side undergoes no significant change either in the acid bath or in the tin bath and most of all, did not use any tin. After the one-sided tinning that was carried out in this way the sheet metal can be used for the production of cans and the like without any additional items. The earth-colored paint or other coating suffers from the tin-plating of the others Sheet metal side not, he can before further processing the sheet metal in known Way to be printed and varnished and treated repeatedly in the oven. However, he can can be used as the outside of the cans while even without such embellishments the tin-plated sheet-metal side inside the can protects its contents against harmful influences protects.
