KAISERLICHES PATENTAMT.IMPERIAL PATENT OFFICE.
KLASSE 12*/:GRUPPECLASS 12 * / : GROUP
Sucht man nun nach jener Methode dasAmmonium perchlorate, which has found extensive use in the manufacture of explosives for both military and peaceful purposes, is nowadays produced exclusively by the inventor's method, according to which sodium perchlorate is reacted with ammonium sulfate (Swedish patent 29193). .
If one looks for that according to that method
Diese in den schon längst bekannten Kristallisationsverhältnissen des Natriumsulfats begründete Erscheinung läßt sich schon von vornherein voraussehen.ίο ammonium perchlorate by means of crystallization to separate from the reaction liquid prepared with ammonium sulfate, so falls However, when the salt cools down, it crystallizes at a certain temperature also the resulting by-product, sodium sulfate, and takes ten molecules of crystal water with. As a result, a new amount of ammonium perchlorate precipitates and is included in the sodium sulfate. It is so difficult and, moreover, only feasible at considerable expense, ammonium perchlorate in this way to separate from the by-product, sodium sulfate. These in the long known The appearance based on the crystallization conditions of sodium sulphate can already be seen from anticipate in advance.
Most of the ammonium perchlorate crystallizes before it is excreted of the sodium sulfate, and this excretion begins in the presence of the ammonium perchlorate due to symptoms of oversaturation only at about + 26 ° C; instead of already at + 33 ° C. It; therefore does not meet any Trouble; to use ammonium sulfate in the implementation, if only one on it be careful, the mother liquor with a something. higher temperature than 26 ° C of the uncrystallized To separate ammonium perchlorate. About what was left in the mother liquor To obtain ammonium perchlorate, the lye was concentrated by means of boiling, with anhydrous sodium sulphate in the warmth falls off and separates out before the mother liquor cools down again. That ammonium perchlorate thus obtained. ' contains' only a small amount of sodium sulfate; as is well known the solubility of anhydrous sodium sulfate increases with falling temperature. In the manner described here, the ammonium perchlorate can be used quantitatively, while at the same time the sodium sulphate is obtained in an anhydrous state and pure from ammonia.
Oder man arbeitet mit kalten Lösungen, von denen eine ebenfalls durch festes Salz ersetztBecause of the solubility ratios one can in the practical utilization of the implementation go two ways. Either warm ammonium sulfate and sodium perchlorate solutions are mixed - One of them can, however, also be replaced by the corresponding salt in replace solid form, whereupon ammonium perchlorate crystallizes out on cooling. Or you work with cold solutions, one of which is also replaced by solid salt
Because of the heat generated during the reaction, the temperature rises to 35 to 40 ° C., and most of the salt precipitates directly during the mixture.
The temperature can then drop to around 26 ° C, and the ammonium perchlorate separates from the mother liquor before the sodium sulfate with ten molecules of crystal water begins to crystallize out. In both cases, a mother liquor is obtained that is ■ ·. , can be further processed by boiling.
f dieser Methode auf unerwartete Schwierig- f this method for unexpected difficulties
y keiten, besonders beim Einkochen der Mutterlauge. So ist das Perchlorat beim Kochen nicht völlig beständig, sondern gibt etwas Ammoniak ab, während die dabei freigewordene Überchlorsäure die Wände des Kochgefäßes stark angreift, sofern es aus Metall besteht.especially when boiling down the mother liquor. So is the perchlorate in cooking not completely permanent, but gives off some ammonia while the ammonia is released Overchloric acid strongly attacks the walls of the cooking vessel if it is made of metal.
Bei stei-Almost all metals form easily soluble perchlorates, which contaminate the solution and are often difficult to remove. The consequence is the rapid wear and tear of the device and an unclean product. But what plays an even greater role in practical terms, these are the large ones caused by the solubility ratios of sodium sulphate Difficulty cooking yourself.
Will man daher z. As the temperature increases, the solubility of the salt decreases. In an evaporation device, the liquid on the contact surface of the heat body is heated more strongly than in other places. Right here is accordingly. the solubility of sodium sulphate is lowest, which is why it is deposited on the surface of the heat body in an anhydrous form as a hard crust. Since it is precisely this anhydrous salt that conducts heat very poorly, the heat transfer decreases very significantly. This phenomenon appears to an even greater extent in sodium sulphate solutions containing ammonium perchlorate. If you want z. B. in an ordinary open vessel a sodium sulfate-ammonium perchlorate solution to evaporate by means of a steam hose, the initially quite lively boiling soon decreases, so that after a while the evaporation takes place very slowly. This is a very significant inconvenience in large-scale manufacture, since it increases the consumption of expensive heating material and requires an expensive and bulky evaporative apparatus. The present invention now aims at a method for eliminating these drawbacks. If the properties of the sodium sulfate-ammonium perchlorate solution obtained during the production of ammonium perchlorate are examined more closely, one finds the surprising fact that the solubility ratios are more favorable at temperatures below 100.degree. It falls z. B. at 80 0 C from much less sodium sulfate than at 100 ° C. The salt falls at temperatures below 100 ° C as a granular, crystalline mass, which is easily detached and falls off, especially if you keep the liquid in motion at the same time. At 110 ° C, on the other hand, as mentioned, a hard, smooth crust forms. In addition, it has been shown that the perchlorate does not disintegrate at temperatures below 100.degree. C., which is why there is no loss of salt, wear and tear of the apparatus and impurity of the products. In order to prevent the abovementioned inconveniences, which make proper operation almost impossible, according to this invention, evaporation takes place at temperatures below 100 ° C., apparatus usually operating with a vacuum having to be used; but other methods are also conceivable. B. made of iron, while at higher temperatures not even lead is durable. In practice it is advisable to let the evaporation of the liquid begin at about 60 ° C and to increase the temperature of the liquid as the concentration of the ammonium perchlorate increases, so that the tapping ζ. B. at about 80 to 85 0 C, all for the purpose of operating the evaporation as economically as possible so that as much sodium sulfate as possible in anhydrous form in a single operation, and at the same time the ammonium perchlorate solution gain the greatest possible strength. The strong circulation of the liquid generated by vacuum steaming also helps prevent crust formation. If you work according to this, the whole process of evaporation proceeds smoothly and without difficulty.
