Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
B. von Lufttrockenholz, das Holz inThe invention relates to a method for preserving wood, especially timber, through which the water absorption and swellability of the wood in is diminished to a greater degree than by treatment according to the methods used to achieve the for the same purpose so far usual procedure. While one has hitherto been used to dry Wood, ζ. B. from air dry wood, the wood in
Die praktische Ausführung des neuen Verfahrens ist folgende:ίο paraffin heated to about 107 0 until all the water had evaporated, and then allowed to cool in the paraffin, according to the method forming the subject of the invention, the wood is left in boiling water before being introduced into the heated paraffin bath until it is completely permeated by this and all the air is driven out of it. .
The practical implementation of the new procedure is as follows:
Use it in the spring if possible the trees are in sap, felled wood, put it in water and boil in it for so long Water until the air is displaced. If you already use dry wood, this will be expediently immersed in cold water for a long time and only then so long in this cooked until it is completely permeated by the same thing that can easily be seen on it so that no more air bubbles can be separated in the hot water, or that the wood in sinks in cold water. The wood treated in this way, previously suitably roughly processed, is then in any container located, liquefied paraffin, which is not to has a low melting point - in order to avoid later changes due to temperature influences, inserted. - This paraffin bath should not be above 115 ° C and this temperature Maintained throughout the treatment to avoid damage to the wood fibers to avoid due to excessive temperature. For this reason, it is appropriate to use Steam as a heating medium.
The wood remains in this bath until everything. Water has evaporated and no more bubbles rise from it, which can be easily recognized without aids is. The wood is then left to cool under the liquefied paraffin until the latter becomes solid. By taking samples from the vicinity of the inlaid wood, you can easily determine whether the mass is no longer liquid there too. The removal of the so treated Wood from the blocks, even with very hard paraffin with a high melting point, can be done without further effort if the same is done for a few hours in warm air from 30 to 40 °.
Das nach dem beschriebenen Verfahren behandelte Holz besitzt eine sehr geringe Wasseraufnahmefähigkeit, so daß Fäulnisbakterien in dasselbe kaum einzudringen vermögen; desgleichen besitzt es eine außergewöhnlich geringe Quellung, wodurch es zur Herstellung von Gebrauchsgegenständen, welche starkenThe wood treated according to the method described has a very low water absorption capacity, so that putrefactive bacteria can hardly penetrate into it; it also has an exceptionally low level Swelling, which makes it useful in the manufacture of everyday objects that are strong
Feuchtigkeitsschwankungen ausgesetzt sind, besonders geeignet ist.Are exposed to fluctuations in humidity, is particularly suitable.
