Abstract

Soft polyurethane foam, hydrophilised by heating to 150-220 deg.C and compression to 20-50% of initial thickness, is usad as foam edge lining for sports'-, esp. ski, goggles. Optimum water-absorption and retention is achieved by using an untreated polyurethane soft foam having pore count at least 18 pores/cm. The untreated polyurethan soft foam pref. has bulk wt. 20-35 kg/cu.m; DIN 53576 hardness index 6-15; and crosslinking characteristic no higher than 105. The edges adjacent to face can be rounded. Fit is improved by shaping the edge lining anatomically, at least near nose. The hydrophilised soft foam has high perspiration absorption and retention capacity.
