Carpet or mat

The invention relates to a carpet or a mat which is produced by a knitting process, whereby new wool or synthetic threads of different colours can be introduced into a vertically stretched base fabric from the back by means of a needle in order to form motifs or surfaces, and whereby the back is latexed in order to fix the threads.

A carpet or mat made using such a well-known knitting process is also known in the professional world as a tufted product, in which a new wool thread is inserted into a cotton base fabric by hand using a needle. The cotton base fabric is stretched vertically, and in order to make the carpet, the base fabric is already color-coded with the corresponding motifs or areas, which are then filled in using the correspondingly colored threads.

The thread is tufted from the back of the base fabric, whereby the thread is inserted in a V or U shape so that the free ends form the tread of the carpet. The length of the needle determines the pile height, which is the pile height of the carpet. This process makes it possible to create any size and shape, as well as any pattern in a wide variety of colors, in a carpet. Finally, the back is covered with natural latex to ensure that the wool stays in the fabric.

A carpet made using the well-known tufting process needs to be improved so that the motifs are highlighted much more effectively, especially in different lighting conditions.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that threads of a fluorescent yarn can be introduced into the base fabric in order to highlight the areas or motifs in the dark. The use of fluorescent yarns, particularly in carpets or mats produced using the tufting process, achieves an additional effect that makes motifs or areas glow in the dark. The carpet develops or unfolds a luminous effect, particularly in the dark, which also enables safe orientation in a dark room. The carpet equipped with fluorescent threads thus has two effects: on the one hand, in the light the motifs or areas are highlighted by their color design and on the other hand, in the dark the motifs or areas appear in their bright fluorescent color.

In a particularly advantageous development of the invention, the fluorescent threads are introduced in particular in the area of the relief cuts. This means that the motif or surface boundaries are highlighted in the dark by the fluorescent color effect, so that the carpet with its different motifs can also be recognized in the dark in terms of the structures that it allows to have an effect in the color design in the light.

An embodiment of the invention is explained with reference to the following figure.

The only figure shows a cut-away side view of a carpet or mat 1 which is made using a knitting process, which is also known as hand tufting, for example. The carpet or mat 1 is made using a needle (not shown in detail), whereby new wool or synthetic threads 2 of different colors are inserted from the back 3 into a vertically stretched base fabric 4 to form motifs or surfaces. Once the carpet or mat 1 has been knitted, the back of the carpet or mat 1 is finally provided with a latex layer 5 to fix the threads 2 in place.

According to the invention, it is proposed that threads 2 of a fluorescent yarn can be introduced into the base fabric 4, in particular to highlight the individual areas or motifs in the dark. The fluorescent threads 2 are woven in particular in the area of the relief cuts, i.e. in the transitions between motif and area.

Carpet or mat which is manufactured by a knitting process, whereby new wool or synthetic threads of different colours can be introduced into a vertically stretched base fabric from the back by means of a needle in order to form motifs or areas, and whereby the back is latexed to fix the threads, characterized in that threads ( 2 ) of a fluorescent yarn can be introduced into the base fabric ( 4 ) in order to highlight the areas or motifs in the dark. 2. Carpet or mat according to claim 1, characterized in that the fluorescent threads ( 2 ) are introduced in particular in the region of the relief cuts.
