Hanging file for compact discs (CD)

Compact discs (CDs) are data storage media with a diameter of approximately 12 cm. They are usually stored in plastic boxes measuring approximately 14 cm x 12.5 cm x 1 cm (L x W x D).

The usual storage forms for these plastic boxes are stackable boxes with pull-outs, racks with grids, boxes with and without lids and foil bags.

These forms of storage are practical for private use. They are not suitable for commercial use because they have the following disadvantages:
They do not allow intermediate sorting, there is no possibility of clear labeling, there is no possibility of sub-division and it is not possible to get an overview of a large number of CDs.

A solution is known in which a strip is attached to the upper edge of the plastic box. This strip has two hanging lugs, with the help of which the boxes can be hung one behind the other in a box or rack. This solution has the disadvantage that the boxes or racks have to be accessible from above and therefore no space-saving stacking is possible.

Another known solution is to put CDs open or in plastic boxes in foil pockets that can be hung up. However, this has the disadvantage that several consecutive movements are necessary to get the CD ready for use.

It also happens that CDs are stored loose in a cardboard sleeve or without any packaging at all. Storing CDs in cardboard sleeves or without any packaging has the disadvantage that the surface of the CD becomes scratched and the data on it can no longer be read.

According to the invention, the disadvantages of the existing storage forms are avoided by creating a hanging file (1) for lateral suspension for plastic boxes (2), for loose CDs (3) or a combination of both.

In detail, this hanging file (1) consists of a flat support (4) which has several protruding clamping lugs (7, 8) and/or a central clamping star (6) in a known design.

CD cases are inserted into the clamping lugs (7, 8). The clamping lugs are arranged on the carrier (4) in such a way that one or more angled clamping lugs (7) grip the plastic case (2) from below on the hinge side. On the opposite side, the opening side of the plastic case, there are also one or more angled clamping lugs (8) which are so small that the lower edge of the plastic case snaps into place behind the clamping lug(s) (8) and the plastic case is thus fixed to the carrier.

The flat support (4) is flexible and bendable; by bending it slightly, the angled clamping lugs (8) release the edge of the plastic box.

For hanging in a lateral filing system, the ^# carrier (4)* has one or more recesses (9) with which it can be hung on one or more lateral hanging filing rail(s) (10). Several carriers can be easily removed from this rail(s), re-hung and sorted.

A further advantageous design of the carrier (4) consists of an extension (11) that protrudes to the front, which accommodates large lettering, large-format, printed or colored labels and enables the attachment of internal organizational features. This makes the markings easier to read even from a distance.

A further advantageous embodiment of the carrier (12) consists in attaching four angle-shaped clamping lugs (13) to the carrier in such a way that they snap into the four lateral recesses (14) on the lid of the plastic box and thus fasten the plastic box by its lid to the carrier (12).

In order to be able to insert loose, unpacked CDs (3) into the lateral suspension, a carrier (17) is equipped with star-shaped clamping lugs (6) in the middle, which grip through the central round recess of a CD (15). The star-shaped clamping lugs (6) are located in the middle of a recess (21) in the carrier (17). This recess (21) is approximately 12 cm in diameter and approximately 5 mm deep and serves to protect the surface of a CD inserted in the carrier. Individual text sheets belonging to the loose CD can be stored on the carrier (17) in a pocket that is formed by folding the lower part (24) of the carrier (17) several times. The suspension in a lateral filing system and the option of labeling are also available.

For suitable applications, the lateral clamping lugs (carrier 4, clamping lugs 7,8) or (carrier 12, clamping lugs 13) and the star-shaped clamping lugs (6) are combined on one carrier (18 and 19).

Carriers (4, 12) with clamping lugs have the advantage that the plastic case can be opened without being removed from the carrier. When a CD is removed, the CD case remains on the carrier. The identification feature remains assigned to the CD case, and the user only has one object as packaging when using the removed CD, due to the fixation of the case on the carrier.

For the lateral suspension of the supports (4, 12, 17, 18, 19), stackable elements are formed from side walls (20) and lateral filing rails (10). The side walls (20) have a base (22) that recedes inwards at the bottom and a recess at the top (23). The base and the recess are coordinated in such a way that they can be inserted into one another and are therefore stackable.
