Description
BESCHICHTETER GLASFASERFILZCOATED GLASS FIBER FELT
The present invention relates to a flexible glass fiber felt according to the preamble of claim 1 for acoustic ceiling panels or other furnishing panels, the surface of which is coated with a flame-retardant, non-fire-promoting paste.
The glass fibre felt is made from glass fibres of normally > 9 μηι and on average about 11-12 μηι diameter and its thickness is typically about 0.2 mm to about 0.7 mm, with the average being about 0.4 mm. The paste paint is applied to a glass fibre felt with a basis weight of about 25-80 g/m 2 , for example by the so-called screen printing technique, a paint roller or by spraying. The glass fibre felt coated with a paste paint is dried at a temperature required for the paint polymer, for example 120-180 0 C, for 45-60 s. Both the glass fibre felt and the coating are flame retardant and non-oxidising.
The glass fiber felt with paste coating is used, for example, as a visible and/or rear surface mainly for acoustic ceiling panels made of glass and rock wool and other insulating panels used as furnishing panels, which, depending on the application, must meet high fire protection, color, emission, acoustic and cleanliness requirements, among others.
The felt with paste coating is supplied as a roll cut to a nominal width of, for example, 0.6-2 m, which requires sufficient flexibility and strength from the coated product. The felt with paste coating is attached, for example, to the surface of the glass or rock wool panel serving as the carrier of the insulation panel using a suitable adhesive that serves as a fastening agent. The surface of the glass fiber felt on the finished acoustic panel must not be "polished" when attaching the panels, so that the ceiling or other surface formed by the acoustic panels does not become uneven in appearance, for example, spotty.
With the known paste-coated glass fiber felts, irregularities sometimes occur, and the fiber orientation of the carrier felt is so visible that the covering
Furthermore, for example, glass fiber felt covered acoustic panels from different batches are not always interchangeable due to color/gloss reasons. The surface appears patchy and has differences in gloss. The paste paints currently available either penetrate too deeply into the carrier felt or the grain size of the filler particles used is too small to be able to adequately conceal irregularities. In order to be able to roll them up, the paste-coated glass fiber felts should be sufficiently flexible and the coating should be such that it does not crack or peel off. On the other hand, the surface of the coated glass fiber felt should be suitably porous so that it would function appropriately in acoustic products such as glass fiber felt covered glass wool panels. Consequently, the surface of the glass fibre felt must not be dense or covered by an air-impermeable layer or shell. Such a shell or dense layer will not allow air to pass through as required and will not withstand the rolling up of the glass fibre felt.
The present invention provides a flexible glass fiber felt coated with a flame-retardant, non-oxidizing paste, thereby reducing the gloss differences and the spotty nature of the glass fiber felt surface caused by non-uniformity and/or fiber orientation of the carrier felt, while at the same time providing a novel paste-coated glass fiber felt with improved performance characteristics.
The present invention is also intended to solve problems associated with the above-mentioned, currently used paste-coated glass fiber felts and to offer a concept with which the ever increasing demands on the coated but nevertheless porous glass fiber felt can be met, in particular with regard to the external appearance.
The concept according to our invention offers a solution to the above-mentioned problems and thus an improved method for paste coating flexible glass fiber felt and at the same time an improved paste coated porous and at the same time flexible glass fiber felt.
This object is achieved by a solution according to the appended claims.
&uacgr;· &uacgr; · ,,
According to the invention, the glass fiber felt is coated with flame-retardant, non-flammable paste, the dry amount of which is approximately 15-300 g/m 2 and which, based on the dry weight of the paste, contains approximately 1-40% by weight, preferably approximately 5-20%, of inorganic glassy particles. Any unevenness and spotting of the glass fiber felt due to the fiber orientation are thereby concealed in such a way that the result is an aesthetically pleasing, non-glossy but nevertheless sufficiently porous and flexible glass fiber felt of uniform color for attachment to the surface of acoustic panels, for example. The porosity and flexibility of the coated end product correspond to the general quality requirements for acoustic felt.
The fire-retardant paste paint used in the solution according to the invention contains about 1-40%, preferably about 5-20%, based on the dry weight of the paste, of hollow or solid microspheres made of glassy (amorphous) materials, the diameter of which is between 20 and 500 μm, preferably between 50 and 150 μm, the average value preferably being about 65-85 μm, or glass crushed material with a particle diameter of 20-300 μm. The specific gravity of these particles is less than approximately 2.7 kg/dm 3 for solid microspheres and glass crushed material and less than approximately 1.2 kg/dm 3 for hollow microspheres and preferably between approximately 0.2 and 0.7 kg/dm 3 . The spheres may be, for example, solid glass microspheres, hollow glass microspheres, fly ash or similar containing nitrogen or other non-combustible or non-oxidising gas.
It is characteristic of the glass-like filler particles according to the invention that they are significantly larger in diameter (> approx. 20 μπα) than the average diameter of the glass fibers used to produce the glass fiber felt (approx. 11-12 μπα). Therefore, they fill out uneven areas in the paste paint and form a flat layer on the product surface, thereby eliminating differences in gloss.
The hollow spheres made of glass-like materials are usually round, larger and lighter (with a considerably lower specific weight) than conventionally used mineral fillers. The solid glass spheres otherwise have the same properties as the hollow ones, but due to the difference in weight, the other properties of the paste coating material must be modified accordingly, for example by adjusting the viscosity and/or thixotropy or by using suitable
te Mischung, damit die massiven Mikrokugeln wegen ihres Gewichts nicht auf den Boden des Pastenanstrichstofrbehältnisses sinken können.mixture so that the solid microspheres cannot sink to the bottom of the paste paint container due to their weight.
By using the solution according to our invention, a final product is created, a paste-coated glass fiber felt whose outfit, porosity and flexibility meet the general requirements for acoustic felt.
