Problem:

Customer service technicians, caretakers, electricians, etc. are often faced with the situation that, in the course of troubleshooting or small-scale installations, an elevated location is required for a short period of time. In these circumstances, an easel is often not available or only difficult to obtain, time is of the essence: So, in practice, daring balancing acts on chairs, buckets or conventional tool cases are the order of the day.

Solution:

The tool box described below can be quickly pulled out with one hand to create a safe step at a height of up to approx. 0.6 m, saving space.

And it can be pushed back together just as easily. If no steps are needed during work, the extended non-slip surface also provides a useful area for detailed work or for storing parts. Since the material used is mostly aluminum or plastic with built-in reinforcements, the weight of the new tool box is insignificantly higher than that of conventional tool cases.

(Function sketch 1)

Sketch 1 shows the tool box in transport condition. The drawer box (3) is inserted into the open side (right) of the central box (2). This drawer box can be designed as desired with compartments or drawers. 4 guide cassettes (6) are attached to the side of the central box (2). The sliding support and guide rods (7) are located in these guide cassettes, which are coated with an oil film on the inside, and the screwdriver holder (9) is attached to the bottom of these in the guide sleeve (8) so that it can move. In this position, the compression spring (10) pushes it against the inner wall of the guide cassette (6) with moderate pressure.

The surface of the cover (1), which is open at the bottom, is attached to the top of the support and guide rods (7). This firm coupling pushes the cover (1) downwards with the support and guide rods (7). The case is closed. The carrying handle (4) of the central box protrudes through the recess (5) in the surface of the cover (1). The pull-out handle (11) is folded down in a recess and is forced down by a spring when not in use. This pull-out handle (11) is connected to the top of the cover (1).

Sketch 2 shows the toolbox in the state: extended to the step.

To pull it out, the folded pull-out handle (Ü) is pulled up. This pull-out handle is then higher than the handle (4) of the central box underneath and is therefore easy to grip. Using this pull-out handle (11), the complete cover (1) together with the support guide rod (7) running in the guide cassette (6) can now be pulled up against the slight resistance of the snap holder (9) pressed against the inner wall of the guide cassette (6). Until the snap holder (9) is pressed at the top with clear locking resistance by the spring (1Ö) into the holder opening (12) cut out in the guide cassette (7). Now the cover (1) can no longer be pushed down and is securely locked in place by the snap holder (9) in the running sleeve (8) on the support or guide rod (7). As an additional convenient step, the drawer box (3) with the integrated handle recess (13) can now be pulled outwards into the guide rails until it stops.

Tools can now be removed or work can be carried out at height. Of course, both walkable surfaces must be made non-slip and non-slip.

Sketch 3 shows the state: Ready to be pushed shut.

Before pushing together, the drawer rib box (3) is inserted back into the central box.

To push it together, the cover (1) together with the attached support and guide rod (7) and snap holder (9) is pulled up with the pull-out handle (11) until it stops. The holding stop (14) presses the snap holder (9) backwards until it stops (15) against the pressure of the spring (10) (to the left in the detailed image). Despite slightly increased resistance, a normally loaded tool box does not lift off the floor. If the box is extremely lightly loaded, lifting can be prevented by placing a foot on the lower overhang (18). The pressure to the rear causes the magnetic holder end (16) to come into the area of influence of the holding magnet (17) incorporated in the guide cassette (6). When pushed back downwards, the snap holder (9) is held at the back by the magnet (17) against the not too strong pressure of the spring (10). This continues until the snap holder (9) is pushed down below the holder opening (12) and out of the magnet's area of influence. Of course, the reverse arrangement is also possible with non-magnetic guide cassettes (magnetic holder end* permanent magnet and magnet area made of steel).

As soon as the shovel holder (9) is no longer held at the back by the magnet, it is pressed against the inner wall of the guide box (6) (on the right in the detailed sketch) by the spring (10), and further insertion downwards to the initial starting and transport position is possible. At the same time, the cover (1) is securely held in place by the slight resistance of the shovel holder (9) and the tool box is securely closed for transport.
