Hair treatment products

The present invention relates to a hair treatment agent, in particular a

Hair conditioning agent that gives human hair increased stability and,

especially for permed colored hair, it improves the durability of the perm and color.

Products for conditioning human hair have been known for a long time.

They usually contain quaternary ammonium compounds that have at least one long-chain alkyl or alkenyl group and, if appropriate, polymers.

Such agents are usually packaged as aqueous dispersions or emulsions, microemulsions, gels or in aerosol form and used as hair rinses, treatments, etc.

An overview of the known hair treatment agents and their composition can be found in the monograph by K. Schrader, Fundamentals and Recipes of Cosmetics, 2nd edition (1989), pp. 722 to 781, especially pp. 728 to 737.

Despite these known compositions, there is still a need for hair treatment products that provide improved stability of shape and color, especially for permed and colored hair.

It has now been found that a hair treatment agent which, when applied topically, improves these properties of the hair is obtained by adding a green tea extract to such an agent on an aqueous basis which contains at least one quaternary ammonium compound with at least one alkyl or alkenyl group with 10 to 22 carbon atoms.

The compositions according to the invention contain, as stated, at least one quaternary ammonium compound with one or two alkyl or alkenyl groups with 10 to 22 carbon atoms, in particular in an amount of 0.1 to 10, preferably 0.25 to 7.5, particularly preferably 0.5 to 5% by weight of the total composition.

Suitable long-chain quaternary ammonium compounds, used alone or in mixtures
can be used together are in particular cetyltrimethylammonium chloride,
Dimethyldicetylammonium chloride, trimethylcetylammonium bromide,
Stearyltrimethylammonium chloride, dimethylstearylbenzylammonium chloride,
Benzyltetradecyldimethylammonium chloride, dimethyl dihydrogenated tallow ammonium chloride,
Laurylpyridinium chloride, lauryldimethylbenzylammonium chloride,
Lauryltrimethylammonium chloride, tris-(oligooxyethyl)alkylammonium phosphate,
Cetylpyridinium chloride, etc.

In principle, all quaternary ammonium compounds listed in the CTFA International Cosmetic Ingredlient Dictionary under the name "Quatemium" are suitable.

The powdered tea extract used according to the invention is obtained from leaves, leaf buds and tender stems of the tea bush, Camellia sinensis or Camellia oleifera, by aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic extraction and subsequent spray drying.

Green tea is the product obtained from the species Thea sinensis or Thea assamica, and unlike black tea, it is not fermented.

An overview of the biological and pharmacological effects of green tea and its ingredients can be found, for example, in an article by A. Pistorius, SÖFW-Journal, 122nd year, No. 7/1996, pp. 468-471, to which reference is made.

The content of green tea extract in the compositions according to the invention is variable. It is preferably 0.1 to 10, preferably 0.25 to 5, in particular 0.5 to 2.5% by weight, calculated on the total composition of the agent and the powdered extract.

The hair treatment agents according to the invention can of course also contain the ingredients that are usual in such agents; in order to avoid repetition, reference is again made to K. Schrader, "Fundamentals and formulations of cosmetics", 2nd edition (1989), pp. 722-771.

Suitable additives are, for example, synthetic or natural hair conditioning polymers, preferably in an amount of 0.1 to 2.5, in particular 0.25 to 1.5 wt.% of the total composition.

Particularly preferred are the cationic (co)polymers known under the CTFA name "Polyquaternium", alone or in a mixture with non-ionic, anionic and/or amphoteric polymers, for example those of the "Amphomer ¹¹ " type.

In addition to the well-known quaternary cellulose derivatives of the type "Polymer® JR", suitable cationic polymers are in particular quaternized homo- and copolymers of dimethyldiallylammonium chloride, as are sold under the trade name "Merquat®", quaternary vinylpyrrolidone copolymers, in particular with dialkylaminoalkyl (meth)acrylates, as are known under the name "Gafquat®", copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone and vinylimidazolinium methochloride, which are sold under the trade name "Luviquat®", polyamino-polyamide derivatives, for example copolymers of adipic acid-dimethylaminohydroxypropyldiethylenetriamine, as are sold under the name "Cartaretine® F", as well as bisquaternary long-chain ammonium compounds of the urea structure described in US-A 4 157 388, which are sold under the trade name "Mirapol® A 15" are available on the market.

In this context, reference is also made to the cationic polymers mentioned in DE-OSs 25 21 960, 28 11 010, 30 44 738 and 32 17 059 as well as the products described in EP-A 337 354 on pages 3 to 7. Mixtures of different cationic polymers can also be used.

Also suitable cationic polymers are the graft copolymers of organopolysiloxanes and polyethyloxazoline disclosed in EP-A 640 643.

A particularly preferred graft copolymer of the type shown has a total molecular weight of about 50,000 to about 500,000, preferably about 80,000 to about 300,000, in particular about 100,000 daltons, the molecular weight of the oxazoline segment being about 2,500 to about 7,500, preferably about 4,000 to about 6,000, in particular about 5,000 daltons, i.e. its molar fraction is 20 units/molecule. The preferred Si content is, according to elemental analysis, about 50%.

Particularly suitable are the organopolysiloxanes described under the designations A-I, A-2 and A3 on pages 12 to 13 of EP-A 640 643.

According to a further embodiment of the invention, the hair treatment agent can also contain at least one compound selected from the group l-methoxypropanol(-2), 1-ethoxypropanol(-2), diethylene glycol monomethyl or ethyl ether, dipropylene glycol monomethyl
or ethyl ether, benzyl alcohol, benzyloxyethanol, phenylethyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol and/or cinnamyl alcohol, preferably in an amount of 0.1 to 20, in particular 0.5 to 15, especially 1 to 12.5 and 2.5 to 10 wt. %, calculated on the total composition of the agent. Preferred compounds from this group are ethoxydiglycol and benzyloxyethanol.

Other additives, the type and amount of which naturally depend on the application form of the product, are fats, fatty alcohols, emulsifiers, pH regulators, solvents and diluents, solubilizers, preservatives, perfumes, etc.

Suitable fats and oils, which also include waxes, are in particular natural oils such as avocado oil, coconut oil, palm oil, sesame oil, peanut oil, sperm oil, sunflower oil, almond oil, peach kernel oil, wheat germ oil, macadamia nut oil, evening primrose oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, or olive or soybean oil, lanolin and its derivatives, as well as mineral oils such as paraffin oil and vaseline.

Synthetic oils and waxes include silicone oils, polyethylene glycols, etc.
Other suitable hydrophobic components are in particular fatty alcohols, preferably those with about 8 to 22 carbon atoms in the molecule such as myristyl, cetyl, stearyl alcohol, wax alcohols and fatty acid esters such as isopropyl myristate, palmitate, stearate and isostearate, oleyl oleate, isocetyl stearate, hexyl laurate, dibutyl adipate, dioctyl adipate, myristyl myristate, oleyl erucate, polyethylene glycol and polyglyceryl fatty acid esters such as PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate, cetyl palmitate, etc.

These hydrophobic components are contained in the compositions according to the invention preferably in a total amount of about 0.5 to about 10, in particular about 1 to 7.5, especially about 1.5 to 5 wt.%, calculated on the total composition.

In addition to the above-mentioned quaternary long-chain ammonium compounds, other surface-active substances, in particular amphoteric (zwitterionic) and/or non-ionic surfactants, the relevant use of which is of course known per se, can also be used.

An exemplary summary of the production of such agents can also be found in the already mentioned monograph by K. Schrader, pp. 798 to 818, especially pp. 804 ff.

The hair conditioning agents according to the invention are preferably in the form of an aqueous emulsion, microemulsion, dispersion or opaque or transparent gel, and can also be packaged as aerosols. Such compositions and their preparation are basically known to the person skilled in the art and therefore do not require any further explanation.

The pH value of the hair treatment agents according to the invention is not critical; it can preferably be between 3 and about 8, in particular between 4 and 6.5.

The following examples serve to illustrate the invention.

example 1

In a hair rebuilding treatment of the composition

0.5% by weight of green tea extract was added, with a corresponding reduction in water content. „

Both compositions were applied to one half of permed hair in a half-side test and the properties of both halves of the hair were compared after application and drying.

The half of the hair treated with the composition according to the invention showed significantly improved shape retention over a longer period of time compared to the half of the hair treated with the known hair building treatment.

0.2% by weight of green tea extract was incorporated with a corresponding reduction in the water content.

Analogous to the procedure described in Example 1, both compositions were compared in a half-side test on colored hair.

The half of the hair treated with the composition according to the invention showed a significantly improved shine and an improved color intensity, which also lasted over a longer period of time.

This composition gives dyed and permed hair a long-lasting color and extends the durability of the hairstyle.

Claims (4)

Protection claims 1. A water-based hair treatment composition containing a) at least one quaternary ammonium compound having at least one alkyl or alkenyl group having 10 to 22 carbon atoms, and b) Green tea extract. 2. Agent according to claim 1, containing 0.1 to 10 wt.% green tea extract, calculated as dry mass based on the total composition of the agent. 3. Agent according to claim 1 and/or 2, containing 0.25 to 5.0% by weight of green tea extract, calculated as dry mass based on the total composition of the agent 4. Agent according to one or more of claims 1 to 3, containing a cationic polymer.
