Gehäuse für hochfrequent lärm- und wärmeemittierende BaugruppenHousing for high-frequency noise and heat-emitting assemblies
The invention relates to a heat-dissipating and sound-insulating housing for a sound and heat-emitting unit according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
Derartige Gehäuse sind aus der US-PS-5 510 954 bekannt.Such housings are known from US-PS-5 510 954.
Die Spitzen an sich sind hochfrequent und dieHard drives in particular emit noise, particularly in the high frequency range, which is caused by a whistling sound from a spindle bearing movement and air whistling noises caused by the rotation of the magnetic disks inside the hard drive housing. In addition, there are irregular noises when accessing data on the hard drive, which appear as pulse-like, rapidly successive noise peaks. The peaks themselves are high frequency and the

The rapid sequence of access itself generates a low-frequency noise. With modern hard drives, the noise level reaches up to 52 dBA in idle mode or 57 dBA during access. This is in contrast to the maximum values of 48 dBA in idle mode, which are recommended.
In addition, modern hard drives usually require cooling, as their power consumption can be over 20 watts, which is mainly consumed by the components usually mounted on the outside. Due to the low heat capacity of the components on the outside of the hard drive, they heat up or cool down very quickly unless appropriate measures are taken to slow down these processes. This means that the components age more quickly due to frequently occurring thermal stresses.
It is also advantageous if the hard drive is mounted relatively softly in order to absorb any shocks that may be exerted on it.
In order to arrange or store a hard drive in such a way that it emits little noise to the outside and the service life of the hard drive is increased, four parameters are essentially important:
1. Reduktion insbesondere der hochfrequenten Geräusche,1. Reduction of high-frequency noises in particular,
2. ausreichende Kühlung der wärmeemittierenden Baue!emente,2. sufficient cooling of the heat-emitting components,
Reduction of the temperature gradient per unit of time seen during heating and cooling of the components and
4. relativ weiche Lagerung, um Stöße abzufangen .4. relatively soft bearings to absorb shocks.
From US-PS-5 510 954 it is only known that a corresponding hard disk must be cooled in order to increase its service life and that appropriate means must be provided to reduce the noise of the hard disk. For this purpose, a relatively complex housing is proposed which consists of an acrylic material and in which a heat sink is arranged outside the housing wall made of acrylic material. Starting from this heat sink, a thermally conductive material such as copper is arranged in the form of a line to a metal clamp. The copper line bridges the distance through several layers of sound-insulating material, which according to US-PS-5 510 954 are necessary to adequately dampen the noise of the hard disk.
Inside the metal bracket is a bag filled with liquid. This liquid-filled bag is used to act as a cooling system and to reduce noise and protect the hard drive from shocks.
Außerdem führt die Abführung der Wärme mittels eines Kabels und eines Kühlkörpers lediglich zu einerThe device according to US-PS-5 510 954 has the disadvantage that heat can build up due to the fact that no heat is removed on three sides. In addition, the dissipation of heat by means of a cable and a heat sink only leads to a
Furthermore, a very large and complex housing with correspondingly large amounts of insulation material is required in order to absorb the sound.
It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a housing which, with a relatively compact design, enables adequate sound insulation and improved cooling of the heat-emitting components of a unit, whereby the rate of heating or cooling of the heating components is reduced and at the same time a certain degree of shock protection of the sound and heat-emitting unit is achieved.
This problem is solved by the features of patent claim 1.
According to the invention, a heat-dissipating and sound-insulating housing is provided for a sound and heat-emitting unit, the housing having the following features:
- wenigstens eine aus wärmeleitendem und festem Material bestehende Gehäuseseitenfläche, dessen innere Fläche zu der Einheit beabstandet ist,- at least one housing side surface made of heat-conducting and solid material, the inner surface of which is spaced from the unit,
- ein in dem durch den Abstand definierten Raum angeordnete fließfähiges Stoffsystem, insbesondere eine Flüssigkeit, die in thermischem Kontakt zu der bzw. den Gehäuseseitenflächen und der Einheit steht, und- a flowable material system arranged in the space defined by the distance, in particular a liquid which is in thermal contact with the housing side surface(s) and the unit, and
- eine Folie, die wenigstens zwischen einem Teil der Einheit und dem fließfähigen Stoffsystem angeordnet ist, wobei der thermische Kontakt zur Gehäuseseitenfläche ausschließlich durch Benetzung des Gehäuses mit dem fließfähigen Stoffsystem oder über die oder eine weitere Folie erfolgt, und wobei die Einheit an wenigstens eine Seite von dem fließfähigen Stoffsystem umgeben ist.- a film which is arranged at least between a part of the unit and the flowable material system, wherein the thermal contact with the housing side surface occurs exclusively by wetting the housing with the flowable material system or via the or another film, and where the unit is surrounded by the flowable material system on at least one side.
According to the invention, it has been recognized that the additional features disclosed in US-PS-5,510,954, namely in particular the additional insulating materials and the metallic clamp, which is connected to a heat sink by means of a heat-conducting cable, can be avoided if the thermal contact with the housing side surface occurs exclusively by wetting the housing with the flowable material system or via the or another film, and if the unit is surrounded on at least one side by the flowable material system, so that sufficient heat transport to the outer surface of the housing can take place.
Preferably, all internal surfaces of the housing are spaced from the unit. The distance is preferably between 5 and 20 mm and in particular substantially 7 mm. This measure allows appropriate insulation to be introduced into all gaps.
A particularly simple construction or assembly is achieved if the housing is preferably made up of at least two parts.
Eine entsprechend gute Geräuschdämmung bzw. Staubdichtigkeit ergibt sich vorteilhafterweise dann, wenn nachA correspondingly good sound insulation or dustproofness is advantageously achieved if
Closing the housing so that it is essentially airtight except for openings for supply lines. Furthermore, it is advantageous for insulating material, in particular a flowable material system, to be arranged on one or more other sides of the unit, with a film being arranged between the unit and the material system.
It is particularly preferable for the liquid to completely surround the sound and heat emitting unit. If the film is preferably sealed on the housing side surfaces in such a way that no substance from the flowable material system can reach the unit, relatively little film material can be used and an even better thermal contact between the flowable material system and the housing side surfaces can be established.
Eine erhöhte Wärmeleitung und eine Verlängerung der Folienlebensdauer wird vorzugsweise dadurch erreicht, daß die Folie der Form der Einheit entsprechend vorgeformt i st.Increased heat conduction and an extension of the film life are preferably achieved by preforming the film according to the shape of the unit.
Hersteller derartiger Kompressen sind beispielsweise Scotch 3M, Pino GmbH und Wena GmbH.A housing or insulation material that is particularly easy to produce is obtained when the film or the film with the additional film is a bag-shaped structure. In this way, cooling compresses known from the pharmaceutical sector can be used, for example, which are inserted into the housing parts. Manufacturers of such compresses include Scotch 3M, Pino GmbH and Wena GmbH.
Eine besonders vorzugsweise Ausgestaltung ergibt sich, wenn die Folie bzw. die Folien ein Schlauch ist bzw. sind, in den die Einheit einführbar ist, so daß der Schlauch wenigstens eine Umrandungsfläche derA particularly preferred embodiment is obtained if the film or films is or are a tube into which the unit can be inserted, so that the tube forms at least one peripheral surface of the
Encloses cross-sections of the unit that are parallel to each other. For a hard drive, this means that at least four sides of the unit are enclosed. This measure results in fewer sealing problems.
Furthermore, the flowable material system preferably has such a viscosity that, solely due to the temperature conditions around the unit, convection takes place which increases the heat-dissipating effect of the flowable material system. This heat-dissipating effect is particularly effective when the convection preferably takes place via a circuit which takes place over the entire cross-section of the flowable material system located in the hose or between the hose and the housing.
Elastomer.Advantageously, the films or foils essentially retain their properties in a range from -30 0 C to 120 0 C. The film or foils preferably consist of a tear-resistant, heat-conducting and stretchable plastic, rubber or elastomer.
Auf diese Art und Weise findet einThe thermal contact and thus the possibility of dissipating the heat is increased by preferably providing means that enable the film to be pressed against at least the warm or hot surfaces of the unit and/or at least one inner surface of the housing. It is particularly preferred if a pressure can be built up in the flowable material system, by means of which a film that is as flexible as possible is pressed against the components on, for example, a hard disk, in such a way that as few air gaps as possible or no air gaps at all are created between the very hot elements and the film. In this way, a
Furthermore, a negative pressure is preferably generated in the flowable material system so that more space can be created for the insertion of a unit.
These means preferably comprise a closable opening and/or a valve through which a flowable material system can be introduced and/or released under pressure.
Furthermore, the means preferably comprise a pressure means, with which a force can be exerted on at least one flexible outer surface of the housing or on parts of the housing that are movable relative to one another.
If preferably the housing is to be arranged such that the side of the unit which has the warm or hot surfaces is arranged substantially vertically, no further means are necessary to achieve movement of the flowable material system. Preferably this arrangement is in an angular range of - 30 0 C to 30 0 C from the vertical.
To further reduce noise emissions, the housing is preferably secured using endless or quasi-endless and/or elongated elastomers. In this way, low-frequency noise in particular is insulated and shocks that could affect the hard drive are dampened. Reference is made in particular to patent application DE 197 11 079, the disclosure of which is to be included in this application. Reference is also made in particular to the improved embodiments from patent application DE 197 11 079.
A correspondingly good heat dissipation from the housing takes place when the housing is preferably made of a heat-conductive material, in particular metal, and/or the surface of the housing is raised compared to a flat surface. In particular, it is advantageous if the surface is corrugated.
Preferably, a computer is equipped with at least one housing provided for sound and heat emitting units arranged in the computer.
The present invention is not limited to computers and the hard drives contained therein or other computer units that emit sound and heat. Rather, other sound and heat emitting units can also be provided with a housing that has the properties according to the invention. This particularly applies to pumps, electric motors and gears, for example.
Im Rahmen dieser Erfindung bedeutet Computer auch Mikrocomputer, Personalcomputer, Workstation, Arbeitsplatzcomputer, Computeranlage, Rechenanlage, Nachrichtenverarbeitungsmaschine, Rechner, Datenverarbeitungsmaschine, EDV-Anlage usw..In the context of this invention, computer also means microcomputer, personal computer, workstation, workstation computer, computer system, computing system, message processing machine, computer, data processing machine, EDP system, etc.
A flowable material system also means a jelly-like mass and also a system consisting of beads, which are surrounded in particular by a paste.

Instead of the fully lined housing cover and the housing base, which together form the housing, corresponding bags can also be used that are filled with a cooling liquid 7 and that are inserted or glued into the housing cover and the housing base, so that in this example all of the inner surfaces of the housing are covered with a corresponding layer. A hard disk 5 is to be inserted into the housing, which has heating or hot components 6 in an uneven arrangement and is supplied with power and data by means of a cable 8. To close the housing, the hard disk 5 is placed in the housing base 2 and the cover 1 is pressed onto the housing base according to the arrows indicated. Closing can take place using sealing rings 3 or locking means, which are not shown. Finally, the housing can be held together by means of endless, quasi-endless and/or elongated elastomers that allow attachment to the computer, or even compressed together by means of a desired contact pressure in order to generate the desired pressure in the liquid.
In this embodiment, which is shown in Figures 1 to 3, the film 9 or the films 9 are attached to the housing by means of clamping rings 10 in such a way that no gaps can form in the space between the film and
Liquid in the housing can escape. Alternatively, a bond could be made between the film and the housing.
The liquid is preferably a heavy liquid, such as water or silicone oil, and is particularly preferably not electrically conductive or not aggressive to electronic components. Fluorocarbons are suitable for this purpose; they are liquid and both chemically and electrically inert, so that if the film or the connection between the film and the housing parts is leaky, the hard drive or the components on it will not be damaged.
Dieses führt die Wärme an die umgebende Luft ab.The film should enclose or touch the hard drive as tightly as possible. The liquid itself is pressurized to allow the film to cling to the hard drive and in particular to the individual hot components &dgr;. This measure ensures good heat dissipation from the hard drive into the liquid. The liquid itself then distributes the heat through conduction and, depending on the choice of liquid, also convection and dissipates the heat to the outside of the housing. In this case, i.e. in this example, the heat is dissipated to the six outside sides of the housing. This dissipates the heat to the surrounding air.
In this embodiment, the hard disk is completely surrounded by a layer of liquid, which is characterized by a pronounced dampening of noise, especially of high frequencies. Furthermore, a corresponding dampening of impacts or shocks and cooling of the hot components is made possible.
Das gesamte Gehäuse stellt damit eine- geräuschgedämmte Einheit dar, die die im Inneren entstehende Wärme zum einen verteilt und zum anderen gleichmäßig über die im Verhältnis zur Baugruppe erheblich vergrößerten Außenoberfläche abgibt.light and the rise in temperature over time after the hard drive is switched on or off and the temperature peaks of individual components during operation are reduced. The entire housing is therefore a sound-insulated unit that distributes the heat generated inside and also releases it evenly over the outer surface, which is considerably larger in relation to the component.
Die erreichten Vorteile liegen auf der Hand:The benefits achieved are obvious:
There is excellent noise insulation of over 90%,
2. die Temperaturspitzen einzelner Bauelemente werden deutlich abgesenkt, was die Lebensdauer dieser erhöht,2. the temperature peaks of individual components are significantly reduced, which increases their service life,
3. die Kühlleistung der gesamten Baugruppe wird durch eine Erhöhung der Außenoberflächen vergrößert, so daß auch Hochleistungsfestplatten noch bei hohen Temperaturen ohne zusätzlichen Lüfter betrieben werden können,3. the cooling capacity of the entire assembly is increased by increasing the external surfaces, so that even high-performance hard drives can be operated at high temperatures without an additional fan,
Masse der Flüssigkeit erreicht und4. a delayed rise or fall in temperatures is achieved by the high heat capacity of the liquid as well as the relatively large amount or mass of the liquid and
Shocks to the unit are dampened.
Durch den 2. Vorteil werden Alterungsprozesse im Dauerbetrieb vermindert. The second advantage is that aging processes in continuous operation are reduced.
The fourth reduces the aging process caused by switching the unit on and off. It is also possible to use the module used for a limited time in ambient temperatures that are above the permissible values. This is particularly interesting if, for example, a computer is switched on in the morning at relatively low temperatures and the room in which the computer is located heats up extremely, for example in summer.
Further advantages arise from the fact that existing computers can be easily retrofitted and the elements incorporated into the housing are largely dust-tight.
A second embodiment shown in the figures is shown in figures 4 and 5. Here, the hard disk 5 is pushed into a tube that is delimited by the film 9. The liquid 7 is located between the film 9 and the housing 11, so that four sides of the hard disk 5 are enclosed by the liquid. In this embodiment, the liquid is arranged around four sides of the hard disk in a single space. This measure makes it possible to enable large-scale convection, which is shown by the arrows in figure 5, with which more effective heat dissipation is achieved. Advantageously, the housing is set up in such a way that the hot components δ are in a vertical position, so that the convection takes place solely through the temperature gradient between the "hot" side, the left side in the figure, and the other side of the hard disk, the right side in the figure, which has no hot components 6.
In order to make the noise insulation sufficiently effective, a cover 12 with conventional insulation material 13 or bags filled with liquid is pushed onto the housing 11 like a cork on a bottle. A corresponding cover can also be attached to the right-hand side in Fig. 4.
The embodiment shown in Figures 4 and 5 contains a three-part housing. The main part of the housing has a cuboid shape, with a cutout on the two narrow sides of the cuboid. The hard drive is inserted into the interior of the hose and the housing through the cutout openings. In order to make it easier to install and remove the hard drive, means can be provided with which a negative pressure can be built up and released in the liquid 7. When there is a negative pressure, the flexible film bulges inwards. After the hard drive has been inserted, the liquid is reintroduced under pressure into the space between the hose and the housing, so that effective thermal contact can be achieved between the hot or warm components and the liquid. The seal between the hose and the housing is achieved using a suitable sealing rail, among other things.
Preferably, a pressure equalization means is provided, by means of which pressure equalization is achieved in such a way that the pressure in the liquid is essentially stable. For this purpose, for example, a valve with a collecting reservoir or a pressure equalization chamber could be provided.
