Description
The invention relates to a radiation protection device for protection against harmful radiation, in particular X-rays, when examining a patient at an examination table. The radiation protection device according to the invention can be used, for example, in angiographic examination systems such as PTCD, ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), bronchoscopy, etc. In these examination procedures, the examiner and the auxiliary personnel, in particular the anesthesia personnel, are exposed to a not insignificant amount of radiation.
To reduce this radiation exposure, various types of X-ray protective clothing and so-called stationary protective devices that are detached from the examiner are known. The examiner and the auxiliary staff can only be expected to wear X-ray protective clothing to a limited extent, since the weight of the X-ray protective clothing leads to spinal and joint problems and the increased heat build-up due to the low vapor permeability of the X-ray protective clothing during the examination represents an increased burden for the examining staff.
Previously known stationary protective devices are relatively complex and hinder the accessibility of the patient during the examination.
It is therefore the object of the present invention to propose a radiation protection device, in particular for protection against X-rays, which does not hinder the examination of the patient and interventions on the patient.
The problem is solved by the features of claim 1.
Durch die optisch transparente Ausbildung der Schutzscheibe ist gewährleistet, daß der untersuchende Arzt die von ihm am Patienten vorgenommenen Maßnahmen ungehindertThe radiation protection device according to the invention has an optically transparent protective screen in the area above the support surface of the examination table and a flexible protective curtain in the area below the support surface of the examination table. The optically transparent protective screen allows the examiner to visually observe the interventions on the patient and the examination measures on the patient without the examiner being exposed to an unnecessarily high level of radiation. In particular in PTCD examinations, the patient's abdominal wall must be freely accessible to the examiner's hands. The optically transparent design of the protective screen ensures that the examining doctor can freely observe the measures he is carrying out on the patient.

The protective screen can be grasped by the examining doctor from the side, whereby the upper body of the examiner is protected by the radiation-absorbing protective screen. In the area below the support surface of the examination table, the protective curtain made of a radiation-absorbing, flexible material ensures effective shielding of the scattered radiation without hindering the examiner, whereby the flexible protective curtain avoids the examiner if he or she bumps into the protective curtain.
Claims 2 to 11 contain advantageous developments of the invention.
According to claim 2, the radiation protection device can be attached to the examination table particularly easily and advantageously by means of a holding plate by inserting the holding plate under a patient support of the examination table. In order to counteract the tipping of the radiation protection device according to the invention, it is advantageous if the protective screen according to claim 3 is inclined relative to the vertical in the direction of the holding plate, i.e. in the direction of the support surface of the examination table. A preferred angle of inclination is between 5 and 45° according to claim 4 and is preferably 15°.
According to claim 5, the protective curtain can advantageously consist of several overlapping slats arranged next to one another. These can be attached to a fastening rail so that they can be detached independently of one another, for example using a Velcro connection according to claims 6 and 8. This allows the slats to be flexibly moved depending on the requirements of the examination to be carried out and the persons being examined to be protected, or individual slats to be removed if they are a hindrance to the examination and are not required for radiation protection reasons.
The protective screen can consist of a lead glass screen or a lead acrylic screen according to claim 9 and can have a lateral recess for the patient's arm according to claim 10. The protective curtain preferably consists of lead rubber according to claim 11.

The first embodiment of the radiation protection device 1 according to the invention shown in Fig. 1 comprises a protective screen 2 which absorbs harmful radiation, e.g. X-rays, and is optically transparent, as well as several slats S 1 -S 4 of a protective curtain 3 which also absorbs harmful radiation, in particular X-rays. The protective screen 2 can be designed, for example, as a lead glass screen or a lead acrylic screen. However, any other optically transparent material with a suitable additive that ensures the absorption of harmful radiation, in particular X-rays, is also suitable. The dimensions of the protective screen 2 can be, for example, 20 cm in height and 40 cm in width. The protective screen 2 can therefore be easily grasped by the examining doctor from the side or reached over above, so that the accessibility of the patient is not or only insignificantly impaired by the protective screen 2. The optically transparent protective screen 2 allows the attending physician to observe the measures taken, whereby the protective screen 2 significantly reduces the radiation exposure of the examiner.
Die Breite des gesamten Schutzvorhangs 3 kannThe protective screen 2 is connected to a fastening rail 4 to which the slats 3 t - 3 4 of the slatted curtain 3 are attached. The slats 3 l 3 4 are advantageously attached using a detachable Velcro connection. For this purpose, the slats S 1 3 4 each have a Velcro strip 5 shown for the slat S 1 in their upper edge area, which interacts with a counterpart provided on the back of the fastening rail 4. Of course, the slats S 1 -S 4 can also be detachably connected to the fastening rail 4 using other known, detachable fastening means, e.g. using hooks and eyes or the like. The detachable connection of the slats S 1 -S 4 to the fastening rail 4 has the advantage that the arrangement and number of slats S 1 -S 4 used can be individually tailored to the examination process to be carried out. The number and arrangement of the slats 31 - 34 can depend, for example, on the number of persons to be protected, on the location and intensity of the radiation source and the degree to which the examiner is hindered by the slats 31 - 34. The slats S1 -S4 are, as can be seen from Fig. 1, preferably arranged in such a way that they overlap one another in a radiation-tight manner. The width of the entire protective curtain 3 can
A typical vertical dimension of the protective curtain 3 is, for example, in the range of 40 cm. A flexible material for the protective curtain can be, for example, lead rubber with a lead equivalent of 0.35 mm. The weight of the protective curtain 3 should be kept as low as possible in order not to endanger the tipping stability of the radiation protection device 1 according to the invention. In addition to lead rubber, any other flexible material that ensures sufficient absorption of the harmful radiation is also suitable.
The radiation protection device 1 is preferably attached to the examination table (not shown in Fig. 1) by a holding plate 6 which protrudes at right angles from the protective curtain 3 and the fastening rail 4 on one side and which is made of a plastic material such as polycarbonate, for example. The holding plate 6 can be attached to the fastening rail 4 together with the protective screen 2 or can be connected directly to the protective screen 2 via suitable fastening brackets. The holding plate 4 can be inserted under a patient support (25 in Fig. 3) of the examination table (26 in Fig. 3). This significantly improves the ease of installation of the radiation protection device 1 according to the invention. The radiation protection device 1 can be installed quickly and easily in almost any position on the examination table by inserting the holding plate 6 under the patient support. The holding plate 6 can be additionally secured to the examination table by means of additional mechanical fastening means, such as screw connections, clamp connections or the like. The position of the radiation protection device 1 can be changed at any time by moving the holding plate 6 inserted under the patient support along the examination table, without the need for time-consuming assembly work.
Fig. 2 zeigt ein zweites Ausfuhrungsbeispiel der erfindungsgemäßen Strahlenschutzvorrichtung 1.Fig. 2 shows a second embodiment of the radiation protection device 1 according to the invention.
Durch die Neigung der Schutzscheibe 2 in Richtung auf die Halteplatte 6,The embodiment shown in Fig. 2 differs from the embodiment already described with reference to Fig. 1 in that the protective screen 2 is inclined by a predetermined angle α relative to the vertical 10. The angle of inclination α is preferably between 5° and 45° and is particularly preferably 15°. By inclining the protective screen 2 in the direction of the holding plate 6,
Ferner weist die Schutzscheibe 2 Abrundungen 11 und 12 auf, um die Verletzungsgefahri.e. in the direction of the support surface of the examination table (not shown in Fig. 2), the tipping safety of the radiation protection device 1 is further improved, since the center of gravity is shifted in the direction of the examination table. Furthermore, the protective screen 2 has rounded areas 11 and 12 in order to reduce the risk of injury.
des Untersuchers und des Patienten zu vermindern. Des weiteren ist an zumindest einer Seite der Schutzscheibe 2 eine Aussparung 13 für den Arm oder die Schulter des Patienten vorgesehen, um die Bequemlichkeit für den Patienten zu verbessern.of the examiner and the patient. Furthermore, a recess 13 for the patient's arm or shoulder is provided on at least one side of the protective screen 2 in order to improve comfort for the patient.
10In comparison to the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the protective curtain 3 has a larger number of slats 3 X - 3 9. This further improves the flexibility of the radiation protection device 1 according to the invention and the width and arrangement of the radiation protection curtain 3 can be adapted even more flexibly to the conditions of the examination process.

Fig. 3 shows the application of an embodiment of the radiation protection device 1 according to the invention in an angiographic examination system.
The angiographic examination system essentially consists of a radiation source 20, in particular an X-ray source, and an imaging unit 22 arranged on the side opposite the patient 21. The radiation source 20 and the imaging unit 22 are fixedly arranged on an arc-shaped extension arm 23. The arc-shaped extension arm 23 can be pivoted and moved by means of a bearing unit 24, so that the spatial arrangement of the radiation source 20 and the imaging unit 22 can be changed in a large solid angle range. During the examination, the patient 21 lies on a patient support 25 of an examination table 26. The examination sequence and the spatial arrangement of the radiation source 20 and the imaging unit 22 can be controlled by means of an electronic control unit, e.g. a control computer 28.
As already described, the holding plate 6 can be pushed under the patient support 25 of the examination table 26, so that the radiation protection device 1 according to the invention can be attached to the examination table 26 quickly and easily. The slats Z 1 - 3 7 of the protective curtain 3 extend at least to the knee height of the examiner 27. The examiner 27 is very efficiently shielded from the scattered radiation of the radiation source 20 in the pelvic area and leg area by the radiation protection curtain 3 and in the upper body area by the transparent protective screen 2, without the accessibility of the patient 21 being impaired by the radiation protection device 1 according to the invention. In particular, the abdominal wall of the patient 21 is easily accessible for examination measures by reaching around or over the protective screen 2. The advantages of the recess 13 in the protective screen 2 of the radiation protection device 1 for the arm 29 of the patient 21 can also be seen from Fig. 3.
