Seit lange setzt man den rauchlosen Schießpulvern Körper zu, welche, ohne an sich ballistisch zu wirken, infolge ihres hohen Kohlenstoffgehalts geeignet sind, die Brisanz des Pulvers zu vermindern. Ein solcher Zusatzstoff ist beispielsweise die Vaseline.
