Extension and multiple socket elements are plugged into the sockets, which are then usually lying on the floor. On the one hand, this is not necessarily aesthetically pleasing, and on the other hand, it is not particularly safe, as extension sockets lying on the floor are not protected against splashes and the like. Even a spilled coffee cup that runs off the desk can cause serious damage.

The invention was therefore based on the task of making a socket adaptable to today's requirements, and in particular to make it possible to retrofit it later with additional plug-in options.

According to the invention, this is achieved by the socket described in the main claim.

It is particularly advantageous that two additional Euro plugs can be plugged into a connector that has space for one functional unit. A connector can be attached to the wall, which is preferable for secure attachment. However, a connector can also be provided with a cable for use lying on the floor or on a shelf.

In a standard design, a basic module has four Euro plug slots under a protruding section. In this protruding section, an on/off switch, a timer, a lightning protection fuse, a dimmer or even an infrared receiver can be installed.

designed in such a way that they can be inserted sideways like Euro plugs. In order to prevent these from coming into contact with each other in the functional unit according to the invention, shorter plug contacts are provided. Furthermore, only two of the Euro plug socket pairs are exposed.

In addition, an earth conductor is advantageously provided between the other two conductors, the neutral conductor and the current-carrying conductor, which ensures that the latter makes contact first. The provision of the additional neutral conductor prevents such a plug-in module from being able to be connected to conventional sockets.

This is further ensured by the configuration of the plug section on the plug-in module. Such a plug section consists of a web section that is recessed to match a round, protruding cutout of the round module in order to create additional mechanical stability in the connection.

When the basic module is mounted on the wall, four plug-in modules can be attached to the connector, for example, to create an attractive socket unit directly on the wall. If it makes sense due to special stability requirements, these can also be glued to the wall or attached to the wall in another way.

It is particularly advantageous to individually adapt a basic module attached to an extension cord using such plug-in modules to the correct number of plugs required. These can now be used not only in one direction as long rails for

but also as rectangular sockets if necessary by attaching several plug-in modules to one another at the side.

Each plug-in module can accommodate two additional Euro plugs and one safety plug, while it itself only takes up the space of one Euro plug on a previous module.

The earthing plugs are advantageously designed as tongues between the sockets, which, with a transverse bulge at the end, ensure that earth contact is actually established and that a mechanical locking function exists.

The plug-in module shown in Fig. 1 consists of a rectangular, advantageously almost box-shaped section 10, onto which a round section 12 corresponding to a conventional socket is placed to accommodate a protective contact socket. This section 12 projects beyond the section 10 horizontally on three sides.

Under these protruding projections of section 12, sockets 20, 22 are provided for receiving Euro plugs, advantageously two. The sockets are provided for receiving Euro plugs with an additional socket 24 for receiving an earthing lug between them.

The base section 10 protrudes on a fourth side to create a plug section for connecting to a connector. Pin contacts 14, 16 are provided on this plug section, as well as an earth contact 18 between them, which is intended to be inserted into sockets 24. The plug section advantageously consists of a web 32, which is semicircular and recessed in an area 34 corresponding to a projecting section of a base module.

In Fig. 3, a connector can be seen that has a smaller, projecting section 3 6 for accommodating functional units. The functional units do not have overload protection. The overload protection is always installed in the connector and therefore only appears once per plug combination, regardless of whether the version is placed on the floor or attached to the wall. The functional units are embedded in the middle of the connector. Connectors can be attached to extension cables or, advantageously, directly in the wall. They offer attachment options for Euro plugs or plug-in modules on four sides. Due to the longer plug contacts, Euro plugs can only be used with a maximum of two plugs facing each other. Otherwise, different levels would have to be selected, offset by 90°.

The current and earthing is shown in Fig. 5 to 8. As can be seen in Fig. 5, three Schuko sockets, the pins 14, 16, and the sockets 26, 28 are connected to one another. In the same way, the earthing tongue 18 is connected to the sockets 24 via a line 44. At the same time, the earthing contact plug earths 46 are connected to the earth. These are also shown in Fig. 2, where these "earth" contacts are arranged at 90° to the usual earthing contact notches 30.

Finally, in Fig. 7, the overload protection 38 provided as an example in Fig. 4 can be shown as an interruption of the current-carrying conductor. To do this, it is necessary to connect the current-carrying conductor correctly. Such overload protection is therefore available in every plug combination, regardless of whether it is on the ground

Socket according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the earth connection is provided by a tab (18) between the pin contacts (14, 16) which can be fitted into the Euro plug socket, the tab contact being provided with a transverse curvature which, when fitted into a corresponding socket (24) between the sockets (20, 22) of the Euro plug contact, ensures an earth connection by positive locking.
